"I have to write this as yet again have used this chip shop and been more than disappointed. When freshly cooked the food is okay. Years ago, fish was skinned, but not sure about now. That was a bonus. As others say, large portions of chips, but no good if they’ve been sitting there, keeping warm. This was my local chip shop and have been going there for many years, but it’s pot luck, very hit and miss, and time of visit determines the quality of the food. We’ve tried all permutations! In the past we’ve been served, warmed up items early evening, just after opening.On one occasion we had to take food back. Another time threw it away. If you go in probably 1/2 hour after opening, the food, providing freshly cooked, is good, but when time goes on I can only presume that the food is left sitting there! Battered sausages served recently were like rubber with terrible batter, and fish cakes, hard, terrible! The chips were scrappy. It’s just not good enough! The other shops in the area cook to order, so that the food is fresh. It’s no use serving loads of chips if they are not nice! Some of the food is cooked when they open it seems and left in a cabinet. If you go in at around 1pm this problem can occur, the fish at that time is cooked to order, we think, it’s more the sundries that sit there for a long time. We’ve had fish that’s terrible and sausages also fish cakes. Hadn’t been for a long time before this visit, but no change so will not return any time soon. Having said this the people are pleasant and it’s a very clean environment."

"These young have served me for years gluten-free fish and chips. the only fish and chip shop for miles, the gluten-free 6 days the week at a high standard and a fair price. I'm still trying to find GF fish and chips since I moved to london. I always visit when I'm back in town. very underestimated!"

"This is a place I often visit because it is local and never once I had a bad meal. we enjoy eating and eating as the restaurant seating area has a very warm old school style. I do not recommend this to tourists looking for something impressive, because I doubt that they understand it, to the little pretentious wise possible. for me, it has a domestic feeling because it reminds me a lot of the place I grew up, but I worry that it seems to others to run down. the atmosphere is always beautiful and calm, as it is in the older people who eat there. my only qualm is the customer service, since the personal never seems too happy. but then again, most of them look like young students and I doubt that they are paid a lot."

"Fantastic meal at roots. It's really hard to find decent Italian food in the UK, but Roots absolutely nails it. The menu is varied without being bloated, and a lot of the ingredients are made in house (i.e. the pasta). Fried pizza dough to start was seriously good, the seafood linguine had a generous portion of quality seafood in, and the tiramisu was out this world. The house red was also surprisingly good for the price. I didn't have very high expectations and was totally blown away but how good it was. Can't wait to go back again and again!"
