"Our second dining experience at Platanenhoff was almost as good as the first, two years previously. This time (mid February) we dined inside, as did everyone else, despite the cozy outside terrace with its tables and chairs equipped with candles, covers and sheep skins. The decor (minimalistic but warm), lighting (perfect) and greeting (warm) were complemented by tasty, inventive food brought to us by speedy, friendly waiters. We started with Prosecco accompanied by a complimentary trio of amuses bouches (the avocado mouse and beetroot chips matched the decor to perfection!) and a basket of freshly baked duo of breads (the corn bread in particular was delicious). Then came salads (fresh and garnished with baked pears) and gnocchi (superb, definitely home made and accompanied by a very light but tasty blue cheese sauce and crispy sage). Our main courses consisted of the Luma Pork, the beef and the fera fish of the day washed down with a very good red from the Grisons (this relatively little known wine growing region of Switzerland produces some excellent wines). Each dish was beautifully presented and well seasoned though the fish was a tad overcooked and the pork seemed rather pricey (it’s the most expensive dish and consists of a largish sausage and small saddle of pork). We rounded off the meal with the selection of cheeses, the sorbet and the lime mousse, again, light, and well made and presented. Service throughout was attentive and efficient. Portions, although on the small side were attractive, well executed and made use of largely seasonal, local produce. The only caveat was the overabundance of beetroot or its derivatives. As on our first visit, the chef made a round of the tables enquiring how everything was. We didn’t opt for coffee this time (and thus missed out on the accompanying home made chocolates) but asked instead for the bill which worked out at just over CHF 100 per person which we felt was well worth it.Platanenhoff is fresh, different and a little bit special and as such is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. We look forward to going back, probably to celebrate another birthday."
