"Absolutely the best I have ever had...... I couldn 't disagree more with the past two reviews, however everyone is entitled to an opinion. I first found Modern Orchid in June 2011. Since I ate there the first time, I have returned each and every week atleast once and most weeks more. I drive an hour and one half each way to eat at the Orchid. The owners, Amanda and Phillip are wonderful!! So kind and accomodating to their guests. The service is outstanding, professional and very attentive. Their vision for the restaurant is exciting and I can 't wait to see what comes in the future. The food is absolutely outstanding. Fresh, well presented, beautiful prepared and very tasty. I travel quite extensively and with Asian food being my favorite I have tried from Halifax to Paris to China and back.....the Modern Orchid is without reservation the best I have every had. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone without hesitation or restriction. Must haves on the menu are Salt and Pepper Shrimp, Crispy Spicy Beef, Fresh Salad Rolls, Crispy Beef Cakes, Hunan Chicken, Yang Chow Fried Rice, Moo Shoo Pork, Mango Chicken. Everything on the menu is exceptional. If you have not been to the Modern Orchid put it on your 'must eat there ' list. You will not be disappointed."

"In 2015, Halifax declared donairs the official food of the city. It's basically beef shawarma (if you've had it in Toronto) or the beef version of a lamb gyro (if you've had it at a halal cart in New York City). It's the evolution of the doner kebab to what Haligonians call "donair." It comes with a donair sauce — condensed milk and garlic. I highly recommend getting the donair sauce on the side and trying it on it's own before drizzling it all over your wrap. Johnny K's is located on an iconic street corner called Pizza Corner, known as the go-to place for 3:00am post-partying nibbles. If you have a donair, you can claim you've had the official Halifax food. If you skip it, you haven't missed much."
In beautiful weather you can even be served in the outdoor area.

"We actually ate at cheese curds in this place. We were very disappointed and we did let them know. We had burgers and poutine. Everything was so salty it was actually hard to eat. The prices are ridiculous as well. $37.00 for lunch, for two people? And that's without a tip. And those were combos. No thanks... Will not frequent this place, sorry."

"The food is quite authentic coming from someone whose favourite Chinese food comes from Shanghai region of China. Very old school cooking style (despite it's name) with a very distinct westernised flavor and lack of authentic ingredients. For example the spicy peppered squid was obviously store bought calamaris from frozen. Despite this it was a very decent effort and quite tasty especially the Shanghai stir fried noodles and the honey garlic spare ribs. The most authentic dish was the stewed beef with hard boiled eggs, I tried to order the kidney appetiser but they had no ingredients to make it. Quite satisfied with the food and the service was very nice."

"I've tried several items on the menu of this modern taco bar, and loved each one. the staff is great, very clean restaurant and lots of options. my particular fave is the spicy chicken burrito bowl and any of the burritos!'"
