"We visited this restaurant twice whilst staying at the Vidamar. We didn’t know what to expect but were delighted to find that the menu suited us perfectly despite not eating sushi. We loved the starter selection and particularly enjoyed the salmon and pork. The restaurant...has a lovely calm atmosphere a welcome change from the buffet restaurant next door! Would like to mention Helder particularly for his wonderful customer service skills, together with his young waiters who are obviously being trained to a very high standard! Have noticed that there are TA sites for this restaurant but chose this one to keep up the good reviews"

"We booked the restaurant as it appeared to offer a great selection of Japanese cuisine. We had a previously culinary experience at Midori, Penha Longha, so we're looking forward to meal. On arriving we were seated at inside table. We had previously had cocktail at main bar so did not need aperitif. We were provided some sparkling water that we requested. We were not provided wine list and 30 minutes later we were provided another large bottle of water. We were finally greeted by server who asked what we wanted to order.It is an intmidating menu, unless you are Japanese, so we asked for suggestions. We were advised that we should order a dish from each page, around nine pages. This would have been far too much food and very expensive. We were then offered wine list. The wine list was extensive but there are not many options below 50 euros. We would have expected this at Michelin Star restaurant but seemed to be expensive for secondary restaurant. We ordered food and specifically stated that we wanted our own main courses. Nigri and Sushi rolls were served which we shared. We then received one main course and rice and the side dish for the other main. The other main dish took a further 10 minutes, to serve, so we were not eating together and side dish was cold when main course arrived. Overall, the service was very poor. I think there should be more attention to explanation of the menu and suggestions for food parings and wine. The restaurant was not fully occupied but most of the staff were just topping up water or wine. We only stayed one night, Friday, and on returning home, I was struck with an upset stomach. I am not sure if this was as a result of our meal but I do have concerns, since the management of all other aspects of our service were poor."
