"Our hostess suggested that we might like to sample the refined cooking at Mr Edon's restaurant Les Hautes Roches in Vouvray, overlooking the Loire river and river valley. We were delighted to comply and enjoyed a sumptuous meal on the terrace in the early evening...sunlight with the beautiful river at our feet. Arriving onto the terrace from a lift situated at the end of a tunnel cutting through the rock, entranced by the view, we had a delicious meal from one of their set menus. My only disappointment was the pigeon breast, which was really too old and tough to start with I believe. I had hoped for squab but did not enjoy the beastie put in front of me. The service was impeccable and we enjoyed sampling several of the local wines especially the Vouvray varieties which abound around the restaurant."
