"€15 gets 2 people 6 traditional cretan dishes and half a litre of wine! Food arrived quickly and was hands down the nicest food I've had in all of Crete. Everything was so delicious we cleared our plates completely and the wine was superb also."

"We found this place while we explore the old town of rethymno. it is a typical outdoor dining area with flowers and plants everywhere. the staff was very nice and we were placed immediately on a beautiful table. After he told the waiter that we are vegan, he recommended several dishes. everything really tasted fresh. we had the huge beans, a Greek salad w/o cheese, filled wein leaves and filled zucchini flowers as well as the fried aubergine."

"We were seated in the beautiful garden which is covered by large trees providing shade, creating a calm and serene ambience. The waitress and owner Julia was very friendly and accommodating. She specifically asked if my parter is vegan after taking our orders, to make sure everything was going to be correct we felt very welcome and accepted! The traditional Greek food itself was exceptional. The menu is largely vegetarian and vegan, with some animal based dishes in between. Everything is well marked (v for vegetarian, vg for vegan). Let me just say that the vegan Moussaka is to die for! Nothing feels like an afterthought. The vegan dishes aren't just traditional recipes with substitutions stuck inside, but are well rounded creations filled with flavor. The meat dishes are fantastic too, so it's a great place for mixed groups of people to go to. I would have liked to give the Taverna Garden a full 5 stars, but happy cow only allows max. 4 stars for restaurants that aren't 100% vegetarian/vegan. Updated from previous review on 2023 07 30"

"In the tourist areas along the coast from Rethymnon, this taverna stood out because of its variety of vegetarian dishes. Most places are heavy on the meat and fish, although there are usually one or two naturally vegetarian dishes (often a Greek salad and perhaps something like zucchini balls), but this place had a whole vegetarian section in its menu. The food was good and not too expensive. If you're staying in this area Kellari is a better bet than most of the others along the main road we walked up and down quite a way from our hotel in both directions checking out lots of different menus and this one was the winner for variety."
