"This resturant is a family favourite. Being originally from Pontremoli and go back frequently with my family this is the place we go most days for lunch. They offer a 13 euro menu which includes starter, main, water and wine. Though in Peak summer season, they tend not to do the offer. Dinner is a grandeur affair they have a fantastic menu. Staff are great always helpful."

"A slightly restricted menu offering the usual local dishes. Pleasant location in the middle of the old town, with murals of local scenes in vaulted alcoves and a friendly welcome from pleasant staff was encouraging, but our starters (an uninspiring salad with hard boiled egg for my husband, and a selection of cured meats for me) were nothing special, and my main course of steak was not medium rare as I had asked for, but it was however thinly sliced, seared on the outside and although mainly raw in the middle I thought it would be fine. It wasn’t, and it was so chewy as to be totally inedible, so we said so when our plates were cleared and the waitress saw the debris on the plate. Service had been slow and it was now late, so we just had coffees and left. When our bill arrived we were disappointed to see that no reduction at all was made to for the poor steak, so we could not recommend this restaurant. A shame."

"The Osteria was not easy to find in the winding and confusing streets of Pontremoli but it was worth the effort. There is seating outside but it is more pleasant inside as the SR62 main road and a railway line are nearby. It boasts that it follows “the local traditions of an authentic country tavern, with seasonal dishes never over elaborated”. The interior is tastefully decorated and it has a pleasant ambience. The menu was in Italian but the waitress/co-owner explained the dishes, but not without visible impatience. We ordered Tagliata di Black Angus alle erbe fini (for two persons), i.e. medium rare steak cut into thin slices, with chips. The beef was very tender and tasty, but rather too rare for our taste. My wife had millefeuille with cream and strawberries for dessert. It was outstanding. We drank a bottle of local white wine, recommended to us by the house, which was excellent value for €20. The hostess continued in the same vein as when she had to explain the menu, when I paid, i.e. with displeasure. I must have done something to seriously wrong offend her. I can't imagine what, or perhaps she just hates non-locals, because when I paid she actually threw the debit card at me across the table. It made my wife and I look at one another in shock. That was a first. We won't be back."
