"Feel a bit guilty for not reviewing this Coffee Shop after one of our many excellent visits. Fridays visit was very disappointing, maybe the fact that a normally heaving dining area was all but empty should have rang alarm bells. Tables were uncleared service was very slow, the egg on my breakfast was like rubber, in spite of it clearly not being touched we weren’t asked if we enjoyed our food. Yes I could have asked for a replacement egg however I figured out if it took as long to come out of the kitchen as the previous one it wasn’t going to be any better. I hope some staff training will bring this coffee shop back to its former glory or Friday was just a blip for some reason."

"We spent two midweek nights at The National in January 2024. The lasting impression will be of how friendly and helpful all the staff we met were. Our room was spacious and well equipped; coffee, milk, etc. was replenished and there were fresh towels daily. The breakfasts were excellent, freshly prepared with care and imagination, alongside a generous buffet. On the first night we ate in the hotel restaurant a limited but adequate choice but again freshly prepared, good quality food served with a smile. There are areas of the hotel in need of some refurbishment but nothing that adversely affected our stay we were comfortable and well looked after. I genuinely do not know how this level of service can be provided for the price we paid."
