"As a seasoned visitor to the great Le Mans 24 Hours, I have dined in this restaurant many times. In the old days, it was a typical French village restaurant, run as I recall by a couple of ladies who knew their trade very well and their food was spot on. The restaurant was called Le Belinois and we made a beeline for it at least once during each of our trips to La Sarthe. The cuisine was authentically French, with good wine that was not too costly and a convivial atmosphere (though I do recall them not being too welcoming the first time in around yr 2000).A few years ago, the ladies disappeared and the restaurant seemed "under new management", renamed to Le Moniacum and now proffering itself as an Italian! Improbable though this seemed, we persevered and the menu didn't change dramatically and all seemed OK. We went there last June and had a pretty poor meal, but put that down to perhaps it being the wrong day/wrong chef. We therefore gave them another go this time around, for the Sunday night after the 24 hours.The meal was very poor. We (mostly) ordered pizzas, since the remainder of the menu was pretty uninspiring and after all, it was an Italian restaurant. The starters were dreadful - tiny prawns thinly spread over some tired salad that looked as if it had been stored in the warm for days. The pizzas were no better - very thick stodgy bases that had a mass of flour underneath them that meant the whole thing stuck to the roof of your mouth in a very unpleasant manner. Also, despite ordering widely across their (fair) selection of pizzas, our party of twelve seemed mostly to get exactly the same thing! The food was lacking in taste and the crew didn't seem to know what they were doing all night.All in all it was very disappointing and not particularly cheap either. I therefore feel obliged to post this review, more as a warning than anything else. For anyone who recalls the pleasant conviviality and great food of the Belinoise, don't go back there thinking you'll get the same because you won't. Pizza Hut does better pizzas, and I am no fan of that establishment at all.Having had a weekend of cooking for ourselves, mainly on the barbecue, this meal was by far our worst in France in 2015 - and the only one we paid someone else to cook!"
