"We went two nights in a row so that confirms the concept of the faithful and steady happy customer that is typical of most Italian trattorias. Great place, genuine feel to it and nice to see a mixture of locals (huge family table) and trekking visitors like us relaxing. Tasty home made food as genuine as the village itself modest menu (with little crosses to indicate what's available based on season) First night we had gnocchi with opari this is a local vegetable that only grows for a month in spring above a certain altitude. Second time we enjoyed scrumptious lasagne with pumpkin and sausage a meal in itself! Lots of local meats for main dishes or second night I had 3 sides which made a great vegetarian alternative. Generous portions easily finished with local decanted house wine!! Veal steak was deliciously tender and the green salad was mixed green salad ie. with many types of local lettuces dressed in mouthwatering vinegar and oil best I've had since I used to grow my own! Shame there's no outdoor seating for warmer summer days, I bet this place is heaven in colder months. Book if you want table in front room on busy nights! Don't be in a hurry or expect linen cloths or stemmed wine glasses. This is where you can eat in a genuine way, genuinely!"

"We were in Villetta Barrea in May, so out of season and not much chance of finding anywhere to eat without having to drive. These guys were within walking distance of our apartment (so we could enjoy the house white and Peroni! and were busy, even if just with takeaway pizzas on weekdays. Very impressed with the service and the food, although probably just basic Italian cuisine, but the pizza was sensational! Only reason for 4 and not 5 stars is because I was unhappy with a 4 euro cover charge, apparently for the linen table cloth but no olives or bread. However, I think this is common in Italy ... even though it's 50% of the cost of the food whatever!"
