"Dampfknudlen ... cake dumplings steamed in milk with warm vanilla sauce! This is one of my favourite treats when visiting Germany. My sister-in-law, Helga always tries to ensure we don't miss out. Often we visit a cafe in Marienplatz downtown Munich. This time we visited...a local cafe in Grafing. There were six of us so Helga called ahead to let them know we would be in the cafe for kaffeetrinken (afternoon coffee drinking time in Bavaria is pm). We were not dissappointed. The cafe is located in a central location near the post office in Grafing. The building has an addition of a green house (glashaus) and a garden. Unfortunately it was a little too cool for the garden, but we did sit in the glashaus area. We enjoyed great service and a double helping of dampfknudlen with warm vanilla sauce. Coffee all round; a cappaccino for me and a lemon ade for my granddaughter. When travelling in Germany, don't be afraid to get off the main roads and try the small villages and towns...they have many hidden treasures."
