"In the past, we often drove to Altenberg: The Cathedral as a place of meditation, the fairytale forest for the children and the restaurants for the physical well-being. The flood also hit Altenberg. The dune has flooded the Altenberger Hof (Hotel and Restaurant and the Küchenhof (restaurant and inn) and both locals need a long time to recover. But today we wanted to explore the possibilities for our grandchildren. Next to the bus stop in Altenberg there is a small but neat playground. The village has many parking spaces around the cathedral; because the place itself has long been car-free. The cathedral is partially equipped and it is renovated in some places. The Church and the Youth Education Centre also hit the flood. So we walked to the fairytale forest. It is high above the dune and can be reached on foot by two paths from the town core. There seems to be time (something left). But somehow very authentic. The stone figure Puck still speaks in the mountain dialect: “Give me paper, the basket is here!” The donkey still has 3 gold valleys for 50 ct. After a few steps you will be at the entrance to the fairytale forest and also at the access to the hotel and café. On the left is the outdoor terrace, on the right it goes to the house. Ambiance In the week the business runs through self-service. Next to the entrance there are three windows. At first you can order small dishes, next to it is the ice station and at the end is the issue of orders. If you want to eat something, you choose the dishes, pay and get a device that vibrates when you want to pick up the food. In the meantime you can find a place on the terrace or go to the cafe to a free place. Since we know that every full hour the “famous” play the “danceful fountains” in the café. A water organ plays “classical” pieces, where colorfully illuminated water figures move from magic to music. The “show” takes only a few minutes, but this “attraction” is already pure nostalgia. Cleanliness Everything was well served. The toilets are flattered at the end of the restaurant inside the hotel. The rooms are relatively large and well equipped ( wheelchair accessible, changing possibilities for children etc. In the week, the business runs like a snack stand. You order a service power, pay and receive a signal through a small vibration device. Then you get his stuff and go back to his place. In the end, you should put your dishes on the tray in a shelf trolley. We didn't want to eat ice cream or cake. On the wall stood as a lunch dish: Pommes menu as a suggestion. So we ordered Pommes, Brühwurst, Senf and Curry sauce (5.80 €). When it was exactly 13 a.m., the curtains went down, the music set in and the fountains started their appearance. Hardly was the “presentation” (about 6 minutes past, the “tableter” started to fry and light: The food was ready. So I went to the edition and picked up the tray. The pommes were pretty thin. The crowd was lush; like two small portions on the bush. They were fried and well drained. The salt content was still fine. Breast sausage was tasty. She had been heated and tasted after meat sausage (Bratwurst did not exist today. The sauce also fits the pommes. The mustard was packed and the sauce was in a small glass. A salad would have been quite good – but we had not asked if a “green” supplement belonged to the “menu”. But that's how we were surprisingly tired. Drinks Mineral water 0.5 l – 3,50 € Value for money The water bottle was perhaps a bit too expensive – for a large pommes with brew sausage, you must expect this price everywhere. Conclusion 4 – happy again. Not necessarily because the dishes and drinks are so wonderful, but because of the overall package. And the “Tanzenden Fontänen”! (1 – certainly not again, 2 – hardly again, 3 – if it results again, 4 – happy again, 5 – absolutely again – after “Kuechenreise” Date of visit: 21.09.2021 – at midday – 2 persons My connoisseur experiences also stand [here link]"

"Been there recently....pizza with finished pastry. The salami in the delivery for the pizza started nicely and unappetiably. The Dönerteller...Salat was a bunch of cheap iceberg with approx. 1/4 tomato and a strip of paprika...The money absolutely not worth it. The dry and older Dönerspieß had to warn me."
