"The Fröhliche Jass is located in a funny little chalet a comfortably short distance away from the village church and the grocery store, and it happened to be the only restaurant open on the rather cold November Sunday I was there.However, having no choice in the matter didn't make this place a bad choice - the hosts were welcoming, the decaffeinated coffee was good (and decaff is rather tricky, so yay for this one), and the place was comfortably warm and decorated with a Tschäggätä (the typical carnival figure of the Lötschental), which gave it a rather local flair. Also, there were plenty of magazines to choose from and a heap of crossword puzzles, all of which kept me happily busy until my bus was due.I have no idea what their food is like, but the menu featured the usual regional specialities, i.e. cheese platters, dried meat with rye bread, Chässchnitte (a kind of cheesy toast) and the like."
A visit to Zum Frohlichen Jass is particularly valuable due to the extensive selection of coffee and tea specialties.

"The chef cooks here - not only microwave food. It is a charming traditional tavern, complete with the local bar regular, with a few glasses after a long day in the mountains. The food was fantastic although it wasn't so busy. I had the pork my wife had. Good wine, too. But you have to pay for it... not cheap. Recommended by most locals"

"Het is altijd een goede ervaring om hier te eten bij Claudio. We hebben op deze zomeravond heerlijk buiten gegeten op het pleintje voor de Dorfkeller. Het diner was weer perfect. Heerlijke salades met huisgemaakte Franse dressing, aardappelkroketjes, frites en Zwitsers biologische Entrecote. Ook de kaasfondue is altijd aan te raden. De service was als vanouds gemoedelijk en professioneel. Weer heerlijk gegeten op deze zwoele zomeravond met een paar glaasjes Fendant."

"This is an alpine hut, but the food is as good as that of an excellent urban gastronomical establishment! The beef I had was as tender as honey and as tasty as an afternoon in the spicy maquis of Provence a beef that melted...in the mouth. The soup was savorous and its recipe secret. It's a place definitively worth coming just for the food (a two hours easy mountain trek from the nearby Wiler Lauchernalp cable car), to tell nothing of the sceenery over the Swiss Alps! Bonus: you can stay for the night and enjoy both lunch and dinner. Suggested down trek through the picturesque Gastern Valley, where hospitality towards travelers goes back way before the Romans, the Valley being a passage between Northern Europe and Italy."

"Excellent as always. We especially enjoyed the new interior everything much brighter. Meat of excellent quality as we're used to it. I can recommend the wine soup give it a try!"
