"Had a craving for fish and chip and we were not disappointed. We had the cod and fries with coleslaw. The fish was excellent, cooked perfect. every bite had great crispness. I wasn't a fan of the coleslaw but I didn't go there for that! Look forward to returning."

"We were on a day trip to our trailer in Buckhorn and decided to look for fish & chips on our way home to Toronto. We briefly stopped at a few places as we headed from the north end of Peterborough to the south but they were all lined up out the door. FIRST let me state that it WAS Good Friday and we were going for fish & chips at dinner time, so my expectations were already set for a long wait. We arrived and they were lined up inside, but all for take out!. The restaurant was busy, as expected, but we got lucky and got a table right away as it was being cleaned up. It was really 2 tables pushed together to accommodate 4 or 6 people by the number of chairs set. There were only 2 of us and as we sat down another elderly couple came in looking for a table and sat next to us The server came by and and apologized in advance for the fact that they were behind and there was another table to take an order from ahead of us; also that there was no soup left and they were not doing salads that day - too busy. She said she would be with us ASAP. All 4 agreed there was no issue and we understood the wait and told her so. As we waited we struck up conversation with the other couple whom we delighted in conversing with throughout our entire meal about all sorts, including the local restaurants and that they thought this was the best fish and chips in Peterborough. Both couples orders were taken at the same time and put in at the same time to the kitchen. We got our 2 beers and they got a pot of tea between them. Then we got our food order in about 15 minutes. That was the issue. It was only our meal. The elderly couple quietly waited. After another 10 minutes, I remarked and they said not to worry, they were local and had been coming for years and they understood it was busy. As we were finishing our meal, another server came by and asked them how they had enjoyed their meal. I guess she saw us arrive at the same time and thought their table had been cleared after finishing. The lady told her they had not received their meal yet. I remarked at how wrong this was and asked her if she could rectify it. She went to find out and came back to me and said they were so busy, the ticket had either been misplaced or their order given to someone in takeout in error and the meals would be up soon. We finished our meal and they were just served theirs. Our own waitress came by as we finished and asked how it was. I told her how annoyed I was that the other couple waited so long and the response was it twas a busy day. I went to the cash to pay and asked the waitress (the one who resubmitted the order, not ours) to speak to the manager. This is a small place and the kitchen is right behind the cash out counter, so I poked my head around the corner to see her asking. She stated a customer would like to speak to the manager (who was also a cook). The answer was a flat out emphatic and loud "NO!". I yelled, "Pardon me?" so they would know I heard the response and her "manager" told the server to ask the other server (ours) to deal with it. The sessage was passed on as the two of them were in front of me and I explained to OUR server how annoyed I was and badly I felt for the elderly couple who waited so long and suggested the restaurant should provide their meals complimentary. That she should aske the manager to do this on my behalf, since she would not speak to me herself. Our server went and passed my message on to the "manager/cook", with me looking directly at both of them. The answer was "NO, it was too busy". Our server came back and before she could tell me, I interrupted with "I heard!" I said let me pay for our bill and put their meals on my bill as well as I feel so terrible for this nice couple spouting off about this establishment in such a nice way. Our servers answer was she would cover their meal, if the boss wouldn't. I told her that it was not her place to do this as I understood what kind of day it was and how run off her feet she must have been.I insisted on taking care of the other couples bill and told them so but that it was for the friendly conversation. The servers and other customers seemed to agree with my logic about "comping" the couple their meal but the boss wouldn't do it. WHAT AN APPALLING TREATMENT OF LONG TIME CUSTOMERS!BTW, my haddock was well cooked but my companions halibut was small and half cooked, as were the side order of onion rings. I found that out afterwards or I would have been more vocal. I wonder if anyone was sick from the under-cooked fish?. ."

"Walked into the place with a few of my friends for takeout. Ended up deciding to stay as we wanted to eat the food hot. Asked the waitress kindly for a simple fork to eat the fish and chips rudely, she refuses as we didn’t do actual sit down seating . Never have encountered this before as I was just requesting for a simple plastic fork. Food was decent, service was horrible."

"I had a great experience ordering from JP’s. I went on the busiest day of their year without realizing it and decided to wait in line anyways. Totally worth the 1 hour wait as the fish was so good, their fries were crispy and hand cut, and my kid loved the popcorn shrimp. Well done!"
