"Was running out of petrol on the drive from London to lake garda. The petr station was an off the motorway and marked on the sat nav map Asked a local filling up for a restaurant recommendation and he said L'essentiel. We would never have gone there- it's just a square modern building that looks like the caterers it originally started our as. We had the set lunch menu with a glass of wine and coffees and it was 38 euros for the two of us for three courses! Fresh and delicious food, very simply but beautifully cooked and well presented. Lovely staff, modern decor and full of locals -we were the only tourists but made to feel welcome nonetheless. A surprisingly good find and a nice break to the journey."
