"Desirous of discovering the magnificent frescoes of the Notre-Dame des Fontaines chapel, we came with a group of 22 people in this charming end of the world that is La Brigue. We stayed for a part in the Mirval and for a part in the Hôtel Fleur des Alpes, but we all dine in the last hotel. And I translate the unanimous opinion of the members of our group saying that we received a warm welcome and made an absolutely delicious meal: Choice offered, which is exceptional for an important group between 5 admissions, 5 dishes and 5 desserts; We could have feared that it would be prepared dishes, without great flavour. Well no: all the dishes served, made with local quality products, were both well presented and particularly tasty. Ah the remarkably cooked ravioli, the veal succulent jump, the exquisite vitello tone, etc. I can't quote everything, but I can ensure that no apartment has been emitted by anyone on the dishes or desserts served. A great bravo to the kitchen team that offers inventive family cuisine and succeeds in incredible achievements. Work to be recommended without reservation."

"We stayed in the Auberge Saint Martin, which is a hotel and restaurant, for one night before a visit to the Mercantour National Park. We found the staff to be friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was lovely and welcoming. The room itself was small...but sufficient, with a shower and sink in the room (literally not an ensuite bathroom! and a shared toilet on the corridor. Ours was the cheapest room, so I don't know whether others have proper ensuites, and we found it good value. We ate dinner in their restaurant. As a vegetarian, I didn't have a great deal of choice (which is normal in France so ordered the goats' cheese salad. When this arrived with bacon on the top, they took it back and re made it for me without complaint when I explained that taking it off the top wouldn't suffice. The home made tarts we had for dessert were very nice and our dinner, including wine, was inexpensive. La Brigue seems a sweet village with a little more to see and do than some of the purpose built hikers' lodges that we saw, yet only a short drive away from the start of the hikes. There was a small church and a ruined castle that we saw as we took our evening stroll around the town, and across the river there is a track up the hill that will give you a good view over the village."

"Yes, it takes over hour to travel to Tende by bus from Menton, via Italy, but for the price is worth it. Visit the museum or walk under the railway line and along a glorious valley and return for a memorable lunch at the...Miramonti restaurant.We had the lapin chasseur which was a delight. It was well supported by local workers, always a good sign. A word of warning, this place is on the market so things may change but at the moment is spot-on."
