"We had come to the end of a wild goose chase in search of La Bonne Famille - a much praised restaurant, unusually open on a French Monday night - which TripAdvisor helpfully informed us was in Sarrazac, just 10 km away from Lanouaille, where we were staying. We pitched up there to find a deserted hamlet.Luckily, the only sign of life was an ex-pat Englishman, who informed us wearily that the Sarrazac we wanted was a two-and-a-half hour drive away. Thanks, TripAdvisor!So back we went to Lanouaille, which we knew from experience was a non-eating zone on Sundays and Mondays. But what's this? A little pizza bar, eat-in or take away, was open to customers. Not expecting much, but at least the chance to stave off starvation, in we went. What a revelation! These pizzas were fantastic! Cooked to order in an authentic pizza oven, they were the best we have yet to taste. A wide choice of toppings, all freshly prepared by the pretty daughter of the proprietor of the adjoining Cafe des Sports. Unmissable - and not just for when everything else is shut."

"We wanted to come and eat there this Monday, August 23 at night, we were 4 people (2 adults 1 child and a stroller) we were repressed with an excuse by baffling that the restaurant was complete and that we could just propose a table with 2 places but that the stroller was going to bother. So we did half a turn quickly, we need to know that before us a group of 9 people came and was also refused because it could not make a table of 9 people because of health restrictions but it never said they were complete. After finding another restaurant for the evening we went back to the restaurant and the terrace was only half filled. We wonder if they really want to work."

"My friends and I were staying in Lanouaille for a friends wedding and we were advised to find a hotel close to the wedding venue as taxis were sparce. After reading the reviews for this hotel we were quite reluctant to book, but thought we’d...bite the bullet and deal with the accommodations once we arrived. We arrived just after the kitchen had closed and we were quite hungry. We checked in to a warm welcome and the chef said she would re-open the kitchen to cook some chips. Perfect. We sat outside the hotel in the fantastic seating area and drank beers until the early hours. Our rooms were clean and tidy, well ventilated and spacious enough for three males with large suitcases, albeit a little basic. The bathroom was also clean and had plenty of fresh towels to let us the weekend. On the second day we went back down to the outside seating area for breakfast and were given a bowl of fresh croissants, pain au chocolats and bread rolls, accompanied with a pot of tea and coffee. Delicious! We attempted to speak French as much as we could although our French was very limited, which I think was appreciated, but the young receptionist was pretty good with her English, so communication wasn’t an issue! We even managed to convey that one of our party was gluten intolerant so couldn’t eat the croissants etc and was given suitable alternatives. I slept extremely well and found the double bed very comfy, although if you are in a front facing bedroom it can get slightly noisy from all the farm traffic and lorries passing through the village. The shower was hot and powerful although you had to hold the shower head by hand. We returned to the rooms in the early afternoon and the rooms had been cleaned, tidied and the beds had been made. The cleaner had even lined our beers up on the sideboard! Overall I think this hotel is fantastic value for money for nights with breakfast included). I would definitely recommend and stay here again. Underestimated, under-appreciated and under valued. Thanks Auberge De Lanouaille xxx"
