"At New Year's Eve, 31. December, the Körpricher Restaurant Birkenhof is always close. We say goodbye to a laugh and a crying eye, says owner Carmen Grüneisen-Birk. For 50 years, the 67-year-old founder hotel and restaurant wife has been holding the gastronomic company together with her 72-year-old husband Josef Grüneisen. Jof , as guests call him, is active from the outset as a responsible cook in the restaurant in Lebacher Straße. Since the opening of 1973 the Birkenhof has been very popular. Guests from the entire Saarland and beyond will appreciate the good cuisine and the cosy ambience of the best guided dining room. In recent decades, many weddings and family celebrations took place. As a reason for the closure at the end of the year, the owner pair described their age and personal health aspects. At the same time, the two regret not to have found suitable successors for their place despite intensive search. For us it is now time to enjoy the rest of our lives, the restaurant manager explains. Over the past few decades, we have hardly had time to take care of our guests and the company, reports green irons. The couple had split up the work. Carmen was the good soul of the restaurant and cared for the decoration, guest care and reservations, and she organized the menu meetings, says Jof. In all these years he was responsible for the preparation of food together with up to four employees in the kitchen. Over the past 50 years, green iron has successfully trained ten trainees to cook. The 80-year-old was the mayor of the municipality of Nalbach from 1985 to 2003 and is still with the regular guest of his wife in the Birkenhof. The couple that has been married since 1975 and has an adult son, thanks to all the guests, many of whom have been loyal to Lolal for decades. The two are also obliged to thank their employees. Without our diligent employees, we could not have sustained the high quality standards for our restaurant, says Grüneisen-Birk. Waltraud Kleber has been working as a service force in the Birkenhof for over 40 years. We had a strenuous but also successful and beautiful working life, says Restaurantchef Grüneisen-Birk. "On the search for a suitable place for a Christmas party we have encountered this restaurant. the prices appeared to me somewhat high for a buffet but since we had only heard positive, we thought that eating was also good accordingly.Falsch thought.The appetizer was ok, the main dish was built only after a very long waiting period and was at best lukewarm, some dishes were rather cold. something special was the whole food not really, and was therefore not fair to its high price in any case.As the "á la carte" eat is I cannot judge but for a buffet I will not go there again."
