"The food here is very hit and miss which is a shame because the faults are so so easily rectified! Sunday lunch was fine but we were only served two rather small pieces of beef and the parsnip was rock hard! The desserts were all...very good. Evening meal the next day was spoiled (I had blade of beef) because there wasn’t enough gravy or mashed potato and veg for the amount of meat-it was all very dry. The whole experience was ruined by the abrupt and rude manner of the front of house waitress who ordered us to “eat at the bar” because our booking wasn’t on her list. We tried to explain that we had changed rooms but she refused to listen. The receptionist had to intervene on our behalf before we were seated. Had she suggested pleasantly that we might like to eat in the bar (or in fact outside as it was so hot) there wouldn’t have been a problem. I personally felt uncomfortable during my evening meal-she wasn’t particularly friendly during Sunday lunch either-our son and daughter in law commented on her brusque manner."

"Used the resturant only. The staff were friendly and helpful but sadly the food let them down. We were after a simple Ploughmans Lunch which we were advised they didn't do then after ordering a more informed member of staff identified a very similar product on the menu. We had ordered a cream tea which when it eventually came after asking about it, the scones looked like Americian breakfast biscuits one was fruit the other looked like a plain scone but was cheese they were served only with jam and clotted cream. To me this is very strange a cheese scone/biscuit with jam and cream. When questioned they said they rotated the scones but never advise customers and thought it normal. Hopefully they will in future ask or advise customers. Definately not a place to drop in and expect normal food. I was offered a discount due to not liking a cheese scone/biscuit with jam and cream."

"We visited Wetton Mill tea room with our 4 young children (10, 9, 7 and 1 yera old) after exploring Thor's Cave. It was quite busy but we were able to get a spot on the grass overlooking the river. I couldn't see anything specifically vegan on the menu and when I asked if they had anything, the staff apologised but said no. I asked if they could do us some cucumber sandwiches, as I'd seen they did tuna and cucumber sandwiches. The lovely girl I spoke to said that they could absolutely do this for us and offered full salad sandwiches with dairy free spread. As I'd ordered so much due to our large family, the member of staff offered to bring our food out to us once it was ready. I cannot express how fantastic her customer service was and especially due to how busy it was. Our sandwiches were delicious after our well earned trek and we managed to summon some energy to visit the cave above the mill. Absolutely beautiful location and fantastic customer service. We'd highly recommend a visit to Wetton Mill."

"Sadly I was very disappointed. Our stay was part of a Charming Escapes gift voucher, given as a Christmas gift. We also booked an additional night at a cost of £140 as our break was part of a birthday celebration. Unfortunately, our room did not live up to our expectation. The room was tired, dated and in need of a bit of tlc. The mattress sagged to form a W but to be fair when reported the following morning despite being told Oh. we put a new mattress in there last week the mattress was changed, still not new and quite worn but better than the first. The room is to the front of the hotel and despite the village being very quiet with just 2 pubs a general corner store it would appear to be a cut through at night with heavy vehicles travelling at speed down the hill and headlights illuminating the room at night. Be aware that the hotel close up in the evening if they are quiet and the front door is locked as early as 10pm you then require a code to gain access. The Internet is very poor you will have no reception even standing just outside the front door therefore will be unable to ring the emergency numbers displayed on the front door. To be fair, the standard of the rooms appears to vary greatly, with some having been upgraded, some of the out building are nice. We queried our bill as didn 't feel the room was of a standard meeting a cost of £140 to be told you booked through Charming escapes, take it up with them we don 't get a fraction of the money you pay We were made to feel like second class citizens due to this and feel we were given a very low standard room. The hotel tariff for a standard double room is £90 if I was on the TV programme 4 in a bed I would have said £50 per night was being generous. Previous reviews of this same room had reported an issue with the door handle and ability to lock the room, this had still not been rectified. If you are just looking for somewhere to hang your hiking boots to dry, it would be OK . I would not stay at this hotel again. Sadly it has so much potential and luckily we had a great evening at The Devonshire Arms just across the road. What a difference. It feels as if the staff at The Chatles Cotton have given up."
As a guest, you can use the WiFi of the establishment free of charge, Depending on the weather conditions, you can also sit outside and eat and drink. The premises on site are accessible, and therefore no problem for visitors with wheelchairs or physiological limitations.

"After visiting this pub a few years ago we decided to return for a late Father’s Day meal and our first meal out since having our baby 3 weeks ago, and wow what a disappointment. Staff wearing whatever they picked up out of the wardrobe, flip flops, wellies, if working in a hotel dining area I’d expect if not a uniform, at least to be served by staff dressed like they were at work and not at home. We waited 10 minutes to be served for a drink at the bar before heading to our table, despite their being 2 people in front of us. Staff were clearly overwhelmed and incompetent. To give more detail, it was quite possibly the worst dining experience I have ever had, s complete lack of any interpersonal skills among the staff and customer service non existent. These people should categorically not be working in a public facing job. There were 6 of us and we had a meal missing from our table, despite the waitress reading our order back to us. Waitress came to see if everything was ok and realized a meal was missing, she then walked off with no apology and did not return to the table to update us with what had happened or how long we would have to wait for the missing meal. After ten minutes she returned and stated ‘I’m trying to get the chef to make that for you’, after 15 minutes the manager came and stated the same ‘I’m trying to get the chef to make that for you’ after 20 minutes of waiting we told the waitress to cancel the missing meal as the rest of the table had finished, after 30 minutes the meal then arrived at the table after it had been cancelled. What establishment is it when the staff state they are ‘trying’ to get their chef to do their job? Another meal was ruined, steak supposed to be served medium rare, was that over cooked was the equivalent to chewing a leather boot. One member of our party has a severe gluten allergy and ordered a gluten free chicken curry and another member of our party ordered a standard gluten free curry, when the curry came out I asked if that was the gluten free one to which the waiter said ‘what is gluten free?’ Waitress serving our meals stated numerous times that she ‘couldn’t be arsed’, ‘I can’t be bothered’, my partner went outside and the waitress was outside and she stated to him she wasn’t going back inside and that she was hiding from the tables. She then asked my partner if he wanted to go into the kitchen to speak to the chef regarding his missing meal as when she had gone in the chef had called her and the manager ‘f*cking stupid’. 1. not a customers job to speak to the chef, that is the staffs job to query where a tables food is, 2. Why on earth you would relay altercations between staff to a customer I will never understand. We over heard the manager arguing with another customer at the bar when they were trying to order a meal, the manager turned to them and stated she wasn’t going to serve them any food or drink. When we queried our bill and explained all of our issues from the missed meals, complete lack of customer service, over cooked food etc, we were met with a waitress who looked down at her notepad the whole time, didn’t even look interested with what we were saying she clearly wasn’t (the same waitress who told us earlier that she ‘couldn’t be arsed’ , she then walked away from the table without saying anything to us. Her manager then came to the table and had the same uninterested, argumentative attitude, shouting at us that we had made her waitress cry, when my partner stated he would not be paying the bill, that we would pay half of it, she then walked away from the table. Another member of our party then went to the toilet and on his walk back through the bar to return to the table was told ‘don’t bother leaving we have called the police’ whilst our whole party were all still sat in the dining room, thinking the manager was rectifying our bill and returning to the table!!!! At this point we then sat outside waiting for the police to arrive and when attempting to speak to the manager to attempt to rectify the situation she completely ignored us. Not hard to see why the staff have the cannot be arsed attitude when the manager has the exact same attitude. To conclude, I would not go back here if it was the last place on earth and would highly recommend that you do NOT spend your hard earned money here. To all the staff at this shoddy establishment I recommend selling up and getting a different job that requires never speaking to a customer because you all have no clue how to work in the service industry. Your attitude and conduct towards us as customers was disgusting, running your establishment how you are you’ll be closed in a matter of months and it’s nothing less than what you deserve."
