Fabulous location overlooking the wonderful Appleby in Westmorland! So much interesting history here and the staff impart some of that on arrival. The rooms are spacious and quirky and clean. What Karen Gerrie doesn't like about Appleby Castle:
Arrived in the pitch dark and there is no exterior lighting. Eventually someone appeared with an inadequate torch to show us how to get in. As we were shown to our room, I asked what time breakfast was served, to be told there was no breakfast and no chef!! Paid for a room with breakfast. Very poor hosts. Wouldn’t recommend.
