"We went as we were looking for a place to take my friend as she’s coeliac. They advertise as gluten free options so we were like let’s go try there. We got there, and when we were sat by the host we went to ask for a gluten free menu, he snapped and said “I don’t take the orders” and we said “no I’m sorry we need a sin gluten/gluten free menu” and he brashly said “aw it’s this menu, you can have the chicken or salad”. This upset my friend as it was almost like a hassle that she was coeliac (which is an allergy and very important to get right). The other waiter come over, and he was more helpful but still didn’t really know what we could have gluten free as it wasn’t explained well. A 3rd waiter come over (I assume maybe the manager) and was more direct about it, more knowledgeable and described it better but by this point my friend was very frustrated and had actually got quite upset because she’s fed up being frustrated by restaurants who claim to be gluten free but then don’t know their menu well enough, maybe the waiters/hosts should say I’ll get the manager or a more senior member of staff to deal with your order and in-still more confidence that things are going to be done correctly with an allergy. She felt like she was a hassle and was visibly upset. So we finished our drinks and went somewhere else who dealt with my friends allergy in a more friendly and positive way. Incidentally, there was other options than chicken and salad on the menu she could have. Such as risotto, and other dishes that could be changed to suit her needs. However this was communicated on the 3rd person who saw to us and everyone seemed a bit confused. Wouldn’t recommend to coeliacs as there are plenty other places around which cater better. Maybe a GF pasta option would be better as well. And some staff training around allergens and how to treat customers with an allergy."
