View all feedback.
What Paul Brun doesn't like about Cafe de l'Union:
manager extremely rude and discouraged! got happy and asked to wait 5 minutes so they waited over 6 empty tables, waited 15 and asked how much longer we had to wait. I was barked and said if I wasn't patient, that we could go somewhere else. nasty rude person and not worth, risk ruining her vacation with such an aggressive person! very sad experience!
Asked to be seated at the edge of the terrace under the trees so as to not bother anyone with our dog. And consequently were forgotten. As we did't want to go full force on alcohol in the middle of the day and chose to skip the apero for some wine instead, we weren't given any more attention. The young waiter in the pink jeans - who did next to nothing after having shown people their table - just left us there until one of his colleagues gave us a menu, half an hour later, when we were left with the menu and an empty table... for another half hour. Given that things looked rather bleak on other tables as well, we decided to have just one course not to be stuck there forever. We finally got to place the order for the dish of the day after over an hour (most people would have left by then, but we decided to be lenient on the second day of our holiday). And then we waited... another half hour... for them to "lay the table" (paper and napkin, knife and fork, the wine we ordered). When the one dish came an hour and a half later - which was, oh well, "ok" - we also had to ask for water that came automatically on other tables. Perhaps it was the fact that we spoke a language that the French don't understand and were mistaken for Germans (but as a Flemish Belgian I speak French fluently), perhaps the pink jean genie was afraid of the dog, but the service was lousy, inattentive, tedious and slow. We were stupid enough to order another coffee and were directed to pay one dish, wine and coffee at the cash register inside more than two hours after we sat down. It's a good thing holidays were invented to waste excess time.
It looked promising but the service was so poor we didn't get chance to taste food or drink. Two other families arrived after us who were seated and given menus and drinks whilst we were overlooked even though the waitresses had made eye contact. My wife asked politely for a drinks menu only to be told by a waiter aggressively with a pointed finger to wait a minute. We had already been there 15 mins and not even offered a drink. That is no way to treat a customer and they weren't particularly busy, just a little disorganised. Perhaps because we were English? There was another English couple that seemed fed up with the service too.We got up and left and found another pizzeria where we got great service and pizza managed by one young man mainly on his own.
