Glacier Bear Lodge

I would highly recommend anyone to book your next trip to Glacier Bear Lodge. They have really good food in their restaurant. I can't honestly name what was my favorite. They have a great staff!

For Yakutat standards this is a great place. I did not stay the night but the dinner was good and the service was good. Prime rib was excellent. Relaxing atmosphere with plenty of flat screens to watch a game and play some pool.

Me and my brother stayed in June 2019, the Ocean halibut fishing was great fishing with Captain Tye on the lodge boat, he is a Shimano pro staffer so the reels and rods were excellent Talica 2 speed reels we caught halibut from 50-100lbs all in shallow water 70-180 feet. Tye works hard to get you your fish and try 's to teach you also, reel don 't pump get the butts up easily, he also puts a couple guys on jigs and the butts are fun catching on jigs. The king salmon fishing was slow on the ocean but we managed a couple trolling, one really nice one. One day after the halibut fishing (limited everyday) we fished with nice Shimano spinning reels shallower waters and caught Lingcod, blue bass, and halibut also. Tried the river one day for Sockeye on our own but it was slow. You must have waders. The lodge rooms were basic but adequate, very similar to a motel 6. One day the hot water wasn 't working on morning but Pete got it fixed. We got the food package and the restaurant dinner food was excellent, they had great deserts also. The sack lunch they made us for each day of fishing was great, basic continental breakfast. Fish processing was good they would take the halibut, cod, salmon from the boat to lodge hang for pictures and fillet up, than vacuum seal in bags and freeze it. At the end of the trip they would box up in 50 lb boxes. In the future they should use a sharpie and mark the fish, KS, H, LC, BC, etc than you could identify your type of fish at home. I only had a few seals fails when a unpacked at home. We got a rental car thru lodge older suburban and one day drove out to the Glacier, long drive but worth it. Pete the manager is a good guy, friendly and helpful. There are not a lot of choices in Yakatut and I feel Glacier Bear Lodge is one of the better ones and look forward to coming up next year and future years to come.

My husband has wanted to Steelhead fish the Situk River for eons, so this was the year we did it. River fishing wasn't ideal because of low clear water, but was still incredible. We spent two days on the ocean as well, catching Chinook, Halibut and a variety of rock fish. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. The staff was helpful and friendly. The food was amazing. Talks of hooking upwards of 100 salmon in day might lure us back up to try another world-class Alaska fishery. If you are considering Glacier Bear Lodge, put any concerns you have to rest, book your trip, and prepare for a memorable adventure!

The worst meal and lodging ever in Yakutat. The best part of Glacier Bear is when you're driving out of their parking lot. We order their halibut and chips, they served us Costco beer battered halibut. When you're in Yakutat, you expect to be served fresh fish (especially during halibut season). My other friends ordered other items and had a similar experience. The bar reminded me of walking into the bar in Star Wars where Luke Skywalker meets HansSolo, the characters and entertainment were something to behold. The smoke filled the restaurant and not pleasant.
