Shady Elm Cafe is a place frequented by many locals and fewer travellers due to it's being tucked away. You can almost feel your blood pressure dropping as you sit under the big shady tree over the deck area. The food is consistently good, always healthy and delicious. Overnight in Benalla meant we sought out a lunch spot. The beautiful nursery setting was a great start. However when we asked for a menu we were pointed to a menu board.Strike one. The locals who came in got menus straight away. We decided not to risk anything ambitious due to there being only one staff member on duty who was too lazy to come out from behind the counter for us.
