Der Amerikanische Freund - Bensheim

My wife and I stumbled upon this place by mere chance and could not have been happier with our luck. Run-of-the-mill German beer is good, but often I want something other than a Pils or Weizen. Here you can get an excellent selection of beers, both home-brewed and from nearby craft brewers, at a reasonable price. I heartily recommend three of Brauart's fares, the Six Gun Pale, Blood Light IPA, and English Rose. Moreover, the owners were extremely friendly and gracious hosts. We hope to go back soon, even though we live 90 minutes away. (Note they only have light snacks, not a full menu.)

This pub is warm and inviting, and the craft beer is amazing! I went several times while I was in town, and I enjoyed myself every time, especially when they had live music or American style burgers. They had a foosball table too, but I'm no good at that haha :) Highly recommend!

At last a bar in Bensheim where you can get very good "craft" beer. This small and friendly bar serves beers from small independent breweries in the region and the 3 I tried were all excellent. I know Germany produces some excellent beers but in Bensheim it's mostly restricted to the yellow fizzy Lager which isn't always a favourite for some of us more mature citizens that moved here from other countries. Last night they had 5 varieties available ranging from a stout through to an English style bitter. Wonderful. If in Bensheim go and give some support and enjoy some excellent ber.
