I have visited this restaurant twice now. During my first visit, I ordered a Rueben sandwich which was very tasty, though it had a bit too much dressing and not enough meat for a $10 sandwich without fries or chips. On my second visit, I tried a special pastrami sandwich with cherry peppers, and it was absolutely delicious. However, I found that the meat portion and price were still a bit lacking. Overall, I would gi... View all feedback.
What Roscoe Jenkins doesn't like about Pastrami House:
The corned beef and pastrami at this restaurant are not authentic. They lack the deep red color and taste more like cold cuts that have been warmed up. The prices are high, but the bread section is good. Overall, this is not a true Jewish Deli, as the quality of the pastrami and corned beef falls short compared to other Jewish delis. Snuggled on the backroads of Berkeley Heights, NJ is Pastrami House. Travel to this location and some of it's views were indeed an awesome excursion. Ordered: Large Pastrami on Rye with Russian Dressing, Mustard, Side of Cole Slaw and a Pickel. Of course I couldn't help but top my sandwich with the Cole Slaw which totally made it even more awesome! The meat was a substantial stack, yet very tender and edible with little excess fat. The bread was soft. Overall this large style is a medium sized sandwich and just enough to be filling without having to take any partition home. The environment was quiet and cool and the staff was very friendly when taking the order. We ate indoors although there is an outdoor seating option. The restaurant was clean and tables included app ordering via QR code from the table. I would recommend Patrasmi House although our onion rings were forgotten, the sandwich was more than enough that the rings were an afterthought
Great pastrami sandwich. Loved matza ball soup. Even black and white cookies Staff is great.
Second time here and once again I am thoroughly pleased with my hot pastrami sandwich. The rye bread held up to a well portioned sandwich of hot pastrami and mustard. Delicious! My wife had hers with Russian Dressing which she really enjoyed. My only complaint was that the pickle should be a whole pickle and be a sour pickle. We also got 2 Kinishes (Kasha and Potato). Both were very yummy. They have outdoor seating. Juniors cheesecake and Nasto's ice cream. You can't go wrong here in this lovely Pastrami House. Nice people and local give them a try you'll be glad that you did. Sorry no pic was starving.
Tried PH for the first time today and maybe I should've ordered the pastrami. The mac and cheese for my daughter was not really good. The blend of cheeses were eh and it was bland. I guess I thought the turkey was an actual roasted turkey and not deli meat so was disappointed about that. But at least my expectations are adjusted now. And you can get a much heartier turkey sandwich at a nearby deli for same price. The mini knishes and coleslaw were very good. The beef barley soup was VERY good. The rice pudding needs to be less sweet by a couple of notches but it was and nice and creamy. Even my kid said it was too sweet so we could only handle a few bites. I would go back to try other items.
A traditional Jewish deli with unique offerings. We've not actually dined in here, but have gotten takeout from here. The sandwiches are really good. You can still get your traditional pastrami sandwich, but you can also get a not your run of the mill Reuben (turkey! here. You can't go wrong with the big Meech, the pastrami egg rolls, or the potato lakes!
