What Chris Austen doesn't like about Grantham Arms:
I have rated this pub before. Lovely place to go and have a drink. Unfortunately this time, don't know if short staffed or what had happened but service was poor. Bar was cluttered with dirty glasses. Staff didn't seem bothered about serving but having a laugh amongst themselves. I'm hoping this was a one off. Service: 2 Location: 4 read more.

"A fabulous atmosphere, wonderful and attentive staff. in the reception area, which was perfect after a long trip, served prelunch drinks. elterns had a great roast beef dinner; cooked to perfection, with beautiful grooms. I had the fish cake I was sad that I didn't feel hungry enough to finish. the fish cake was packed with whole pieces of large fish and huge garnels. mash to hit my grandmother (by knaresborough) fishcake. that was my first visit to the general; the family has eaten and stayed here. my elders finished with sticky toffee powder and shared it. the first glass chardonnay I had was easy, the second was creamy. I would have appreciated the advice on the change. the personal was so wonderfully individual in their approach. it made the sometimes stuffed approach of derbyshire restaurants/pubs so relaxing. the general tarleton should be regarded as a real local and regional institution. food, service, atmosphere, everything is perfect."
