That 's how we felt about The Canteen Taphouse and Tavern, our first-night dinner destination. This place is a gem for anyone with a hungry family in tow, offering the golden opportunity to make a reservation for your mealtime amidst the chaos of vacationing. We were rewarded with a cozy corner upstairs after navigating a staircase as challenging as a ski slope. It was the perfect pit stop to shed our snow gear and dive into much-needed comfort food. Service was impressively swift, beating out the usual wait times we 'd braced for. The beer selection? A high point, with options aplenty and a waitress ready to guide us through each one. Our menu picks were a mix of kid-friendly and adult-comfort dishes--from a basic yet satisfying cheese pizza and mac 'n ' cheese for the kids to a comforting roasted red pepper bisque with grilled cheese for my wife and a classic Reuben for me. While the food hit the expected notes of tavern fare, the warm pretzel was the night 's MVP. Imagine a pretzel so large and delicious it deserves its own ski pass. It 's not about avant-garde cuisine here but about good, reliable food, quick service, and the kind of beer list that makes you glad you 're in Breck. "We landed at Apres during a slow time and had the chance to enjoy talking with Bartender Dave. My wife's smoked Old Fashioned (not the right name, but close) was flawless. He made an off-menu drink oout of muddled berries, coconut something, lime sherbet. I ordered on faith and was rewarded with one of the top five drinks I have ever had. I would have ordered another, but the room started to fill and that drink took time to create. So, I settled on a good tip and a t-shirt for the misses. If we are back in Breckenridge, we will make time for Apres absolutely!"
