"From the moment I booked and Irene said she would sit us at a table near the open fire, we knew we were onto a winner! This restaurant was recommended by our hotel in nearby Arcis sur Aube on our journey to the Alps. This is a perfect stop off near the Route des Anglais motorway. Irene’s restaurant is a rustic setting with a great fireplace to warm a wet, windy evening. Her greeting was really friendly and she talked us through the options for our meal. After some tasty little nibbles we had a delicious starter each. Local Chaource cheese warmed on toasts on a very fresh bed of salad. And a vol au vent, packed with mushrooms with watercress salad. Both were excellent! Irene suggested a main course which we both went for Guinea fowl with a ravioli side, and parcels of rice in rolled cabbage. She then brought out the biggest epoisses cheese we’d ever seen, but we couldn’t manage it. Too soon after our Xmas excesses!! So we just squeezed in the chocolate mousses, which were divine!! As we are in the Champagne region, we had a bottle of champagne for the meal and a bottle of Badoit. Total bill for this feast, 83 euros, (24euros per 3 courses/ 35 euros for the champagne). Amazing home cooked food and a delightful time spent chatting with our charming hostess. In front of an open fire. We would Highly Recommend. We feel that children would be very welcome and would be interested by the quirky displays in the restaurant. Parking easy and secure off road."
