What MrDavetheSarks doesn't like about The Defiant Duck:
Feels rather new, and the service wasn't too bad either. Has a nice selection of tap beers, and a rather decent atmosphere. However, somewhat average compared to numerous other pubs in the area. View all feedback.
Been here a couple of times, first time wasn’t great but gave it another shot. Food is overpriced and average at least, drinks are ridiculously overpriced and the atmosphere does nothing to help with people crammed in on top of each other and amplified voices of the masses making it impossible to talk without screaming. Don’t expect staff or management to pick up the slack on the experience either. If they aren’t ignoring you, they are telling you plastic found in your food is a nut or hurriedly ushering you to a seat as if you’re an inconvenience. Overall, be prepared to overpay for an okay experience and leave with a slight sour taste in your mouth.
I ordered Rueben sandwich American style pastrami on Rye A true pastrami sandwich will have at the very least 70/30 ratio pastrami with sauerkraut not 70/30 sauerkraut to pastrami ratio all I could taste was vinegar and mustard. My wife ordered pulled pork tacos and I ordered sweet potato fries to share . My sandwich came out first, I’d finished before my wife’s tacos came out SORRY TOO MUCH FLOUR on soft tacos. I’m South American and know a good taco and these were not. Then came out the sweet potato fries they were good . This place would go broke if it wasn’t located at the bottom of commercial/residential towers.
We had the $1 tacos which were small and come in multiples of 3 and the Reuben sandwich with chips. They were all nice enough and the specials on the wall during the week looked like good value. The drinks were expensive in relation to the food but I guess that is where the money is made. It hit the spot enough for me but it was just a pub lunch so if you are looking for something more gourmet this is probably not the place for you.
We enjoyed a stone and wood and watched the ufc match and the atmosphere was great! Be aware toilets are offsite but accessible once you’ve asked.
An American bar that doesn’t offer American beer was the start. Sharing the bar with a bunch of drunk UFC hyped up males didn’t help. Not all of us want our family to watch 2 guys belt the f*ck our of each other while we eating. We ordered first out of 14 so my “poutine” arrived last, cold and gluey. The coleslaw that was served with it was wilted and warmer than the poutine (which is Canadian not American by the way). I also ordered the jug cocktail of the day (Southern Comfort and totally flat ginger ale). My lime wedge still had the sticker attached to it FFS. This place is a joke, I wouldn’t return for a million dollars.
