My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Soul Spot! The candied yams were incredible, the baked chicken was tender, and the mashed potatoes were possibly the best I've ever tasted! This cozy little restaurant serves delicious food. I highly recommend it! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Soul Spot:
The food at this restaurant is delicious and the staff is welcoming. I personally prefer real shrimp over what they serve here, but the flavors are still good and they offer a diverse menu. I would suggest this restaurant to anyone in Downtown Brooklyn looking for a quick meal. Keep in mind that they may not always have all menu items available, like the stew chicken. Despite this, it's worth stopping by to try them... View all feedback.
1. The service staff seemed as if we were bothering them just to inquire how to order (because there is no signage); and had smart remarks when ringing up our orders.2. The the Rice Peas were dry and flavorless.3. The collard greens gives the Glory Greens in the can Essence. Woody stems all throughout the container of greens. No flavor other than the juice from the can of Glory Greens.4. The curry goat was introduced to just enough heat to ensure it was no longer raw; however I chewed on pieces of this curry goat for ten minutes and it would not GIVE. I tried several other pieces of my curry goat and many pieces could not be penetrated with my very sharp human teeth.5. There were only two tables to dine in and virtually no other place to consume your meal.6. I would not recommend The Soul Spot to anyone looking for Jamaican food or Soul food unless you enjoy Glory Greens from a can and curry goat chewing meat that could use no less than 7.5 additional hours of simmering.7. Additionally, I would recommend signs at each display sharing what the sides are; what the proteins are. Some of your items are not readily recognizable.
I've been ordering from Soul Spot for over 20 years ... They never disappoint. We love their salmon, baked or j chicken and all of their sides. If you're vegan/vegetarian you can order 4 sides as a veggie platter. When comfort food is necessary, come here! Also, if you are lucky enough to grab a carrot or red velvet cake before they run out you're in luck!
I used the Soul Spot to cater a baby shower in March. The food was absolutely delicious. So many guests asked me who cooked the food and commented on how good it was. I used them because they catered an event I had attended previously and the food was just as good at the previous event.
Ugh! I try my best to buy black owned. However, a sistah has standards! Customer service was extremely poor. I stood at the counter for at least 5 minutes before I was sort of acknowledged. This was with only one other customer present. You would think the women at the counter were working for free. The quality of the food needs improvement. Mac was gummy, oxtail fatty and lacked flavor. Food was overpriced. I will not be spending my hard earned money there again. I will move onto another small business with good food and customer service!
Food was great definitely 10/10, also enjoyed the portion size. I give it 4 star regarding service because there was a girl who seem completely disinterested in taking my order and helping me. Others stepped in and took my order.
