"Are you coming in and out? Not really, but a convenience store, the food of this quality has the right to take a little more time. We don't have Sheetz at home, and that's a pity. You'd be my date for gas, street eaters and drinks."

"I really had to sit down and think hard to try and find the right words to describe just how special Gateway Lodge is. It was almost impossible! If I could pick just one word though, it would be magical. Nestled in the heart of Cook Forest, Gateway Lodge is like stepping in to a different world. From the warm, beautiful rooms, to the delicious food and calming atmosphere, to the incredible staff, Gateway is sure to blow you away while making you feel completely at home. My husband and I first stayed at the lodge 4 years ago when we were married. We opted for the elopement package and brought our children and immediate family to celebrate with us. It was such a wonderful, easy experience. The room was cozy and beautiful, our wedding ceremony was simple and quiet, and our meal with our families was so intimate and lovely. We were finally able to return to celebrate our anniversary this year, and let me tell you, despite the crazy rollercoaster these last 4 years have been for everyone, nothing has changed. Jody checked us in and was as polite and welcoming as ever! Our room was spotless, inviting, and exactly like we remembered. The bed was comfortable and with a nice warm fire going it was hard to want to climb out to do anything! Each morning a quaint breakfast basket was delivered to our door, making it easy to stay in and just relax. And who doesn’t love a nice jacuzzi tub with all the bubbles peaceful and so romantic. We dined in their restaurant both Friday and Saturday and the food was remarkable. Unique, locally sourced, and so flavorful! We particularly loved the homemade chips with salmon salsa so tasty! Robin, our waitress on Friday, shared some lovely stories with us and we sincerely enjoyed her company and service! The Taste of the Wilds 3 course menu on Saturday was out of this world. The caprese salad was outstanding, and the sweet corn black raspberry ice cream was delicious such a surprising treat! As someone who is very hard to impress with food, I was certainly wowed by Gateway’s chef (and owner)! Rob, as always, was engaging, professional, and a real joy I think we would go back just for him honestly! He explained our meals, told us where all the components were sourced from, and educated us on so much. It really elevated the entire thing. We especially loved listening to his knowledge on the different wines we tried and we spent a lot of extra time talking with him after we finished our dinners. Just an overall lovely experience. The best part of our stay, however, were the interactions with fellow guests and staff. Whenever we travel places, we love making connections with people we meet, this was no different. Everyone was so pleasant. The staff was friendly, engaging, relaxed yet professional, and we made friends with a lovely couple who was staying just a few rooms down from us. We unintentionally enjoyed our dinners together Saturday evening, and it was so fun! We spent 3 hours in the dining room talking and visiting with them (and never once felt rushed out by staff)! Staying at Gateway Lodge is magical like stepping in to another world. The incredible attention to detail, even the smallest ones, makes the whole experience something truly special for guests looking for that kind of experience. If you’re wanting an opportunity to step away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and sink into something slower and simpler, while still being offered high end accommodations, this is the place to go. In my personal opinion, Gateway truly strives for excellence and for creating the best experience possible for their guests. We sincerely enjoyed our time and look forward to returning soon. Thank you, Gateway, for a wonderful stay! Rooms: Simple, cozy, and welcoming. With a fire going in your fireplace you will feel completely at home and comfortable. The fireside jacuzzi tub adds an additional touch of romance and intimacy. Beds are large and comfortable and the rooms are tidy and well maintained. Food drinks: Unique, locally sourced, and made from scratch food. Absolutely incredible. The wine list is noteworthy as well, and includes many high end wines. Noteworthy details: It is evident that Gateway prioritizes every little detail. From cozy campfires with s’mores, to a small in house library and cute mason jar orange juices each morning, you can tell they put a lot of thought and love into everything they do."

"A fun little place along I80. Bakery has an eclectic mix. Menu for lunch was solid for an alternative to the typical travel fast food. Recommend if you have a little more time than just hitting the drive thru..."
