Ok so I'll start by saying I think pepper and franks red hot sauce are spicy, so of course my boyfriend ( who loves this kind of food) orders the spiciest thing on the menu - fish baked in a banana leaf, and I almost ate the whole thing! He was just going to give me a bite and I helped finish it! We also had seafood laksa and a chicken dish with rice ( which comes with a fried egg on top.) Highly recommend I will be... What Asha Oberbrunner doesn't like about Banana Leaf Tropical Cuisine:
I was there a month ago. I was born and lived in Malaysia for more that 30 years. I cook a lot of Malaysian food from the stretch. I tasted their food from their menu but disappointed. The curry noodles taste it was from the Tean curry package and the roti chanai is also from frozen package which you can purchase from T View all feedback.
I have been ordering takeout from Banana Leaf for years, and their food is consistently excellent even during the pandemic. Some of my favorite dishes include the red, Taiwanese-style chicken, and seafood laksa. The portions are generous for all dishes, and I always have leftovers for later. Most of the dishes are spicy, but it's a nice level of heat. I recommend giving them a try if you enjoy Malaysian cuisine!
I recommend the chicken rice. Unfortunately, it didn't look like the picture and was overcooked. I'm not familiar with South Asian cuisine, but I enjoyed the laksa. It was flavorful and rich, but a bit too spicy for my taste. I ended up taking the leftovers home.
Authentic Malaysian cuisine, full of taste and delicious! the seafood lacsa is my ascent, along with the redi and hainanese chicken rice.
As a Malaysian, I strongly recommend this restaurant! The flavors are 90% similar to what I have had in Malaysia. The Hainanese Chicken Rice is extremely authentic (don't let the pictures deceive you, it's just the restaurant's lighting that isn't the best). The chicken is incredibly flavorful, tender, and mild. The Nasi Lemak is also very delicious, with the sambal being the best I've had in Canada. I will definitely be returning to try out other dishes!
I come here once in awhile I think it's a bit heavy to have too often but it's awesome. Super spicy so be ready for that. It's often not busy so it's great for a quick meal.Authentic and delicious!
