I recommend this restaurant. The food here is delicious and is a favourite of mine for years. My client and I ate here last month and we're happy to do so again this today. Perhaps we'll do this on a monthly basis. I rarely have...room for the dessert but had it at the beginning. The rice pudding has a lovely taste of cardamom and the fresh watermelon and grapes a nice touch. I also like the ambience. View all feedback.
What Carmelo Luettgen doesn't like about Surahi (Restaurant):
As Indian food lovers, we were recommended by well intentioned friends to eat at Surahi. It was by far the worst food, Indian or otherwise we've ever had. The onion bhajis were like little tasteless potato cakes. The Rogan Josh was a tough lamb dish with a brown sauce with zero connection to any spice. Could have come out of a packet from No Frills. The shrimp masala was drab and had the tails attached. Difficult to... View all feedback.
3 adults (age 50+) ate here for dinner on a Friday night. My father (82) has only eaten Indian food a couple of times before. He had the Butter Chicken, mild. My husband had the Chicken Madras and I had the Chana Masala. Samosas for appetizers and Garlic Naan and Roti bread. We all enjoyed our meal. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. We would come back again. They have their own website with menus online.
Had their lunch buffet although you can order of the menu if you like. Great selection, very tasty and reasonable price. The decor is authentic and the staff very accommodating.
The food is real good, you can always ask for small adjustments, they give good advices on what to try. I like that there's always the same staff serving us. We even had the lunch at our son's wedding here and it was great as usual. It's a huge building what makes it a bit less romantic but I heard that they're going to split it up soon. All in all, it's our go to place when we're hungry for East Indian food!
We recently went to this place for their lunch buffet which offered a minimal selection of average at best dishes. Not even in the same ranks as the better Indian food establishments in Calgary...but the best part was they charged $18/head. Beyond ridiculous! All things considered anything over $10 was a complete rip-off.
I love Indian food and have been to Surahi for their lunch buffet a few times. Unfortunately while it has been excellent it has also been pretty humdrum. On this occasion while the Pakora was ok but not spectacular the Samosas were inedible. The exterior was rock solid and difficult to cut while the filling was dry. I should have known better because they were just as bad last time but being an optimist I had hoped for improvement. Clearly these two items do not keep well in heating trays in buffets. The rest of the food fared better. The basmati rice was nice and fluffy and while, the dahl and two other offerings were very liquid they were flavorful. Both the tandoori chicken and butter chicken were excellent as was a zuchini dish. Naan bread was brought to the table fresh and was warm and tasty. Very small dishes of a delicious rice pudding rounded out the offerings. It paid to arrive early at noon before the food had sat to long although that did not help the samosas. Last time we ate there we were later and the quality was lacking. The service was friendly but we were surprised not to be asked about the uneaten samosas. At close to $40 for two with no drinks it is not as cheap as most Chinese buffets. Regardless if you want a big plate of rice and butter chicken you won't be disapointed.
