We picked up take away pizzas here on our last night in Castellana Grotte. They were simply delicious, probably the best we had in our 4 week stay in Italy. Crispy base baked in a proper wood fired oven with a good selection of bianco or rosso bases. We would definitely go again. The restaurant was also very nicely decorated and we were quite sad that we hadn't eaten here during the week. read more.

"As a serious foodie, I have tasted many pizzas in Italy and have found the pizzas at La Carbonella to be absolutely superb the best I've ever had in Italy. They are no ordinary pizzas they are genuine gourmet pizzas with an excellent thin crust and made in a wood fired oven. A good indication of the quality of the pizzas is that even though they are always extremely busy, they would not consider using pregrated parmigiano cheese instead they would only grate the cheese just before serving how impressive is that! A positive surprise about La Carbonella is the price extremely good value average price about €5! If you don't like waiting, it is highly recommended that you go early ie around 8pm otherwise it could be a long wait. The fries or patate fritte are excellent as well. If you like white pizzas (ie without tomato paste) you must try the Pizza Rustica with grilled zucchini, eggplant, smoked cheese and parmigiano really good. So if you are in Puglia, you must go to Castellana Grotte and try the wonderful pizzas at La Carbonella."
