We stopped here for lunch on our way to Mesa Verde, based on a recommendation from the staff at the CHAMA Visitor Center. We were craving burgers and were told this was a great place to get them. We decided to visit this restaurant because it was bustling with local patrons during lunchtime. We were pleasantly surprised by the crowded atmosphere, with more cowboy hats than we had seen on our entire trip. The service was friendly, but a bit slow as there seemed to be only one person working as both the cashier and waiter (presumably there was someone else in the kitchen). As mentioned before, they only accept cash. I was disappointed when I inquired about the sopapillas I saw at a nearby table, only to be told that they were only available if we had ordered one of the Mexican entrees.

The flavors and portion sizes at JV's are surprisingly nice. However, there are numerous rules posted on the walls such as not touching the blinds, moving tables, or the TV. With limited restaurant options in Chama, JV's is likely in the top three choices.
Ordered frito pie, didn't have lettuce, or tomato...
We only get to JV's place when we camp at Heron Lake state park. A very busy place. It so worth the trip. Excellent food.
