"The only place open unfortunately. One harried waitress with too many customers and only two hands. Bilingual though . We had a chicken Caesar salad, grilled cheese with fries and 3 chicken strips with two rum coke... 51.24... wow. It wasn't even good! The fries were cold, the salad dry, the grilled cheese had one undersized cheese slice and not even the fat kind and the chicken fingers were half the size you get in store. ??? Where did they buy those? Mini mini mart? The cocktail was good needed after that meal. The only saving grace besides the over worked but very friendly waitress."

"Gold Country Motel Restaurant is the kind of establishment that I have often mentally dismissed when driving by on the TransCanada Hwy 11. The thought process is... just one more of countless similar highway motel/restaurant establishments that all seem to have 10 – 12 motel rooms facing the highway and a restaurant that one assumes is primarily for the convenience of the motel guests. On this late afternoon/evening I had been heading north for some six hours, on my way to the family cottage without my wife, didn't particularly want to cook dinner for myself when I got there, so decided it was time to stop here for a quick dinner. The entrance way is quite long with a door at each end. With hind-sight I realize that it has been thoughtfully designed so the first door will absolutely for sure be closed before the next door is opened... ensuring that no summer hot-air blasts nor winter freezing air blasts will disturb restaurant diners when new customers arrive. Good introduction. The restaurant itself is relatively small, seating something in the area of 24 – 30 patrons. It has obviously been very recently renovated... carefully decorated with white walls for brightness combined with pine paneling and a goodly number of antique wall hangings. Modern-style wooden tables and comfortably padded wooden chairs. By the way, the bathrooms have also been fully renovated; each with artistically tiled floor and walls and also a painting. The overall impression for the whole establishment is of meticulous planning, care and cleanliness. The menu is quite small. A single breakfast offering is available until 11:30 am. 2 eggs, bacon or sausage, home fries, toast & coffee for $7.99.Six dinner entrees... - Atlantic Prime Cut Cod “in our own secret batter” with homemade slaw and chips - Bacon Cheese Burger with Fries- Chicken Wings with homemade coleslaw and fries... choice of four sauces- Poutine (Quebec style) with Thornloe cheese curds and gravy- Toasted western sandwich- Homemade chicken – pasta- red pepper soupA couple of dessert choices. When I was there, the whiteboard also offered onion rings and deep fried mushrooms. Service was really friendly. When I asked for coffee to start, the co-owner / hostess looked at the pot available and immediately decided that it was not fresh enough and asked if I would mind waiting till she could make a new batch. Nice. I decided to go with tea instead and was given a choice of Red Rose of Green Tea. The tea came as a cup of hot water, with a tea bag in it... not so classy. But from that point on, everything else went great. And later in the meal she did come back at least twice to ask if I would like additional water for my tea. The recommended option from the above menu was the Atlantic Cod for $13.99 so that is what I went with. In my experience, cod can be tricky to prepare. If not done right, it can taste “too fishy”. But boy do they know how to do it right at Gold Country. The portion was sizable. The batter coating was crisp and almost paper thin with no surplus of retained oil. The fish was fresh, flaky and delicious. The coleslaw obviously was really home made, fresh and very good... the ingredients chopped very fine and no surplus liquids. The fries are English style chunky, crisp on the outside and not soggy on the inside. Malt vinegar available. The meal also comes with a slice of lemon and tartar sauce for the fish. My recommendation... use neither, just enjoy the flavour as is.Bottom line... this fish and chips meal ranks in the top five that I have had in the past couple of years. Highly recommended. Additional notes: - Not LLBO licensed.- No WiFi available. (I did overhear the hostess discussing with a local couple at a nearby table that she is trying to obtain it, but the service provider tells her it is currently bandwidth constrained in this geographic area. So hopefully this will get resolved sometime in the future.)Given the limitations outlined above, including limited menu, I can't really rate this restaurant overall Outstanding... but it certainly deserves Very Good."
