"Martines has been my favourite dining experience for over a decade in Comox. Excellent locale, championing local meats and vegetables along with local wines, this unique experience combined with excellent service was a dining event and one my wife and I enjoyed for many a...year. Sadly, it has fallen from lofty heights. Service, which used to be impeccable is now rushed without distinction. Menu items which used to have variety have wasted away to the normal. Ambience, with what was clean white table clothes and expertly placed silver ware and glasses are now strewn on the exposed table tops which have seen better days. The bar area, once a showcase, is now covered with glass bins and the like taking away from the experience. I felt let down by the menu selections. The food I had calamari and my wife had the Brie cheese for the starters. Calamari looked normal, presentation was over lettuce with tomatoes and green onions. No flair, no artistry. My wife did love the Brie and it’s presentation was much stronger. I had the oz steak. We were told by the server that Baby Bok Choi was part of the vegetable medley on all dishes this turned into red cabbage from Ralphie’s Moms kitchen. The garlic potatoes were very good. The steak was overdone and my friends who had the ribs complained that their plates felt like ovens to the touch. My wife had the tuna off the menu and she felt it was well presented and delicious. The steak presentation was well done, but the difficulty here was the vege selection, which bordered on the norm. As to the service felt like I was at a diner. Asked for a replenishment of drinks once, and not prior to the meal being served. When taking and serving plates, servers were not aware of who ordered what and so we were left to point towards the person receiving the dishes having worked in a high end restaurant in years past, this is easy to do and creates that special feeling for your guest that is certainly not here anymore. When taking the dishes off the table, the server stacked the dinner plates in front of me. I have no real issue with this at a diner, but this is fine dining! She literally scraped food from one plate onto another… Never checked on our meal until we were almost done. Not the expected or normal results from what used to be a spectacular event at my favourite place. We will return on future visits with the hope this grand place can return to its impeccable service and menu, but I’d be hard pressed to recommend it at this point considering the price points"

"I stopped by after a walk around downtown Comox. The open air vibe (September), was really nice on this warm day. The food looked and smelled great, granted I just had a few beers and no food. They have good background music and a friendly attentive staff. There is outdoor and indoor seating, but no views of the bay.I recommend a stop here."

"Food is more expensive these days but Avenue Bistro could do better with their fish and chips offering. 1 piece of halibut and fries was 26 and a side of coleslaw was an extra 2. The fish was OK but a bit dry. The batter was light but not exceptional(it was take out but we ate within 10 minutes). All in all, the box was pretty disappointing on opening: especially if one ishungry, which I was. The piece of fish was small and the offering of fries was dismal and so much so that I thought it was amistake but all 3 orders fell to the same meagre level. OK, halibut is pricey but fries aren 't. The most lame element was the side of coleslaw it was served in a tiny plastic cup the same size as the tartar sauce about 1 2 tablespoons (not anexaggeration it was about 1 mouthful). Cabbage is cheap so perhaps they could loosen up a little on the portion size. Inoverview, pretty disappointing as I 'd heard many say it was a great place to eat in Comox. Maybe they 're catering to the retireecrowd that want a smaller meal but for the price, these must be well to do retirees. I won 't be heading back value for wasdismal. Food quality was OK but far from exceptional."
