Contribute FeedbackNestled in a quiet Concord neighborhood, Canasta Kitchen offers a modern twist on classic Mexican fare. Diners appreciate the attentive service and well-portioned dishes, like the tasty chips and signature bean dip. While some dishes impress, such as the highly praised chicken mole, others, like certain empanadas, miss the mark. Guests report varying experiences, with some noting the absence of atmosphere due to the restaurant’s emptiness and lack of background music. Despite the inconsistencies, many remain loyal, drawn back by the promise of flavorful meals and welcoming staff, hoping for a return to form.
Love eating here. often, the brothers met when they first opened. it is easy to come with or without reservation. especially the chips with their signature bean dip.
My man and I shared another wonderful dinner in canasta. the restaurant is located in a quiet street in an older part of concord, just two blocks from todos santos. canasta kitchen is a small place, but the staff is always welcoming. our dinner was delicious, from the free chips, which with this delicious black bean puree up to my speciality queensadilla, filled with juicy tweezers and mushrooms, to hubby’s fantastic maul throw con pollo. eating is so good, I brought a friend to lunch two days later.
We went some time ago and had a great meal so we decided to take friends there for dinner. none of us had a good meal, and it was very expensive. I hate to give a small business a bad review, but they will be out of operation without serious changes. we were the only people in the restaurant, and now we know why. get a new cook or new recipes. the food truck is good. chips with bean dump/curée were good. no salt shaker on the table. that could have helped to eat.
I was on a double date. it was hot in the restaurant and smells like flour dew. They asked to sit outside where it was hotter but not smelled and had better air flow. it took a long time to get our order and waited for the appetizers forever. one was ok and the plantains were just evil. take our beverage order and then 3 other table orders. the ONE server where they had worked on a Friday night was busy, but that also made it wait. we ordered us and then two of the four informed us what they ordered them to be out. finally came the dinner, it was tasteful, never asked us if we dessert and then we left. will not be back soon.
Nice, quiet, little restaurant off of the beaten path. Food was authentic Mexican and was very tasty.
