We felt like the person cooking did not know what they were doing, from rare steaks served well done to items served with the supermarket s packaging. Other tables left half the way through their meal too. I am sure there was something really wrong that evening. Nevertheless, all the staff was genuinely nice!"

"Lovely restaurant in the Main Street in Cockermouth. The owner and his wife as well as their service are friend and helpful. The food was very good! Having just been in Turkey 6 months ago, I must say the food in this restaurant was better than in Turkey. We ordered a few starters and mains and everything was absolutely delicious! My personal favorites were: sigara boregi (filo pastry rolls filled with feta), Ali nazik kebab (lamb kebabs on a bed of aubergine and pepper yogurt). "What a beautiful place to stay. We were at Irton Hall for two nights. The setting was tranquil, and the grounds surrounding the Hall were well kept and made an evening stroll before dinner easy, just what we needed after a long journey from our home on the Outer Hebrides. The staff were so helpful and very friendly. We ate in the hotel both nights and the food was delicious. Our room was spacious, very comfortable and the ensuite bathroom with jacuzzi bath was fabulous especially after a hike up Scafell Pike! Jamie gave us a potted history of the Hall, thank you, Jamie. All in all we just couldn't fault it. We will be back."

"We love the kellbank pub. more so we now have a holiday home at the other end of the same series! we can go there every day and don't need to get a single pan out of the closet. Always a warm friendly atmosphere, great eating, excellent menu, good mood, great cozy fire. what is not to love"
