we were on site and had booked a meal on Saturday night. (we have called for a drink earlier after a walk both were warmly welcomed and were welcomed by all employees. also other customers. there were many choices for drinks and the menu was fabulous. as a group of 5 adult we were all spoiled for choice and as someone with food intolerances I found the clearly marked menu amazing! everything was cooked and beautifull... We live locally and decided to book a table for new years eve. So we could walk the mile and half each way. Started as a table of 4 and ended up as 9 as family decided to join us. We offered to prebook as there was 9 of us. We arrived half an hour early for drinks before dinner. The table was set ready for us. The food came out red hot and plenty of it. All the food was ready at the same time and noone was left waiting. 9 clean plates. Great choice of puddings and the table finished off 7 between us. Definitely recommend. Very friendly couple and lovely environment.
Nice fresh food at limited times, but closes early even on the weekend. So check before travelling that they are open
A cheery welcome from Hal behind the bar, and a warm welcome from the fire keeping us warm cosy. Another lovely meal from Andy, consistently good food, and really think it can't be beaten in the area, that's why we are so lucky to have this place as our local. Thank you for offering consistently good food.
Ate at both village pubs whilst in Gilcrux and this one wins hands down! Food was fresh and tasty and the welcome from the owner was friendly. Wish I had eaten here both evenings and would definitely recommend if you’re in the area.
We stopped in for Sunday lunch while staying nearby, which was a rare treat for us since we own a pub ourselves. The landlord and locals were very friendly, the real ales were well-maintained, and the Sunday roast was very generous and delicious, with well-cooked vegetables and tender beef. What more could you ask for?
