Visited last year for the first time and enjoyed it so much we went slightly out of our way to visit again this year. We were not disappointed and have decided it will be an annual pilgrimage. Too far away to be regulars. Crab salad was devine and so good a portion I did let hubby pinch some in return for some of his cream tea. Cannot recommend it enough for quality of food and service. What richardanthonye doesn't like about Holy Mackerel Cafe:
The food was excellent, interesting and unusual but the staff were aggressive, volatikw and rude. Such a shame. This is written for my friends who went there for lunch on 16th August. The staff were also very rude to my daughter yesterday. They could really make a go of this cafe but if they don't learn to to treat people politely, they will fail. View all feedback.
The food was enjoyable so my party announce but, when asked about the possibility of off menu sandwich there was a frosty return. Very unlikely to return with that sort of customer non service I’m afraid. There are better ways to say ‘no, sorry’. Please take note.

Nice spot, amusingly quirky decor. Lovely couple running it, very helpful, very friendly. Excellent menu, and others food looked good. Coffee only here, but I should have lunched here and NOT at the Shipwrights Arms pub as I did after my walk.
A very welcome lunch after a long muddy walk. Superb food, I had the smoked mackerel and beetroot sandwich which had lots of tasty extras, so good. Very warm welcome in a very inviting cosy space. Also dog friendly with their doggy bar menu! Would definitely recommend.
Beautiful quirky little spot. One of my favourites anywhere and coffee and flapjacks are incredible. Bravo
