Oak Coal - Costa Mesa

The mai tai was delicious, but eating was a little strange. unagi crispy rice was very average, the rice was not crispy enough. Cunning noodles was a bit cooked, the noodles felt soggy. the huhn karaage was really hot and sour.

I've never written a review. I am one of those lazy who has read hundreds of Amazon Yelp reviews to help me make purchase / gastronomy decisions, but I have never taken the time to actually write my own review. Now Oak Coal deserves the exception! I? was just absolute mind flown through the quality and freshness of food (please try the salmon crudo?s straight butter?, through the creative and tasty cocktails (the Tokyo Gimlet is so refreshing and fragrant..absolute perfection! but really the reason why I write this is that the staff, although I would have returned here alone because of the food, went for me absolutely ABOVE BEYOND tonight. I have to do with older sick parents who are in the hospital and Hailey (sp. was so incredibly friendly, thoughtful, generous and supportive? literally let me cry! And I don't cry easy. Incredibly moved by strangers (the staff decided to show up and give me some hope in humanity tonight. Thanks for a great deal! Am I back?

We ordered ourselves today. 6 different dishes 1.Steamed Chicken Lemongrass dumplings 9/10 The noodle around was so delicious. I loved the texture and taste. The lemongrass chicken was well seasoned and also really good. 2. Bao Buns 10/10 They came with a turn. I thought about Bao, round, damped emptying. But these were more like small tacos, except the shell was a Bao Bun. Flavor was amazing. The little spits added a little spice, the ginger was picked and sweet and a little sour. The pig bell tasted smokey and juicy. Totally perfect! 3. Kurobuta Pork Belly Skewers 12/10 Omg!!! That! Coming from Germany, I am used to grill pig bells. We call it either belly rag building lobes or a grill burner grill torch (name explains itself as they love to light on the fire by the high fat approval. The smokey taste and seasoning was on point. I loved them not being dried out. Plain garlic noodles 8/10 The noodles were ok, overall really greasy and sloppy. The taste was good, but I wouldn't order her again, others loved her. 5. Blistered Brussle Sprouts 8/10 Generally really good, crispy and a mild spice. What we noticed was that many of the dishes contain lemon flavor. I liked it, but others commented that it is usually too much 6. Chicken Karaage 6/10 We somehow expected something completely different. The legs were juicy, but not as crispy as we thought they were. The dough reminded me of Calamari and my brain tricked me and said that 's Calamari! Somehow I'm crazy and I didn't want to finish the chicken. But that's my own opinion, someone else's brain could not play thought games. The order was made over the homepage and was super simple. We didn't even wait 30 minutes. The food was hot and fresh. That was definitely not our last time. Thanks for dinner for us?

Lots of friends recommended this place but my first visit. Nick helped us try all the best items. We loved it and are coming back. Don't miss this gem.

Came here on a whim with moderately high expectations for a special evening out and this place blew us away! Our first dish we received was the New York strip skewer (pic attch?d . I can say without a doubt it was the best beef skewer I?ve ever had. The meat was super tender and full of flavor. We got 3 skewers with about 7 pieces of New York on each for $17. This dish is a must try, (unless they have the Wagyu in stock!! . Our second dish was the Mixed Chicken skewers which again, left us longing for more. They use some sort of plum sauce that just enhances the whole experience. If you have some room left, this is another great grab. We finished up with the Fluffy Cheesecake which I can confidently say is now my favorite desert in Costa Mesa. The side of green tea ice cream was equally as satisfying and was the perfect finish to our night. I?ll be coming back here extremely soon to show off this great place to my friends.
