Very recommended restaurant. The ambience, food and service are perfect. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. Of course they have the best food and coffee in the city. You can also enjoy a great view of the cathedral from there.

The renovated courtyard next to the new cathedral has become a popular place to eat since we were last in Cuenca. What a look at the iconic church domes! There are several restaurants, but we really enjoyed El Confesionario, on the second floor balcony. The menu includes breakfast, sandwiches and dinner with local and international influences. We shared a soup, salad and elevated version of mote pillo, a regional specialty, served with chicken. The sum was under $20. It is more than we usually spend on meals in Cuenca, but it seems worth it for the quality and fantastic environment. Stunning cathedral view while eating delicious and affordable food.

Absolutely delicious. The garlic shrimp appetizer was so good I had to ask them to pour it over pasta and have it for dinner. This is our second visit in two days. Oh and the lemon pie; to die for. Visiting Cuenca? Do yourself a favor and dine here as soon as you can, because you’ll want to come back over and over again.
