This is AWESOME. A real jewel. We have lived in Danville for three years and this is by far the best restaurant we have experienced. Super cool mood and decor and the food is really extraordinary. You wouldn't expect a good meal in Danville, but that's what you get here. Can't wait to go back! View all feedback.
If they could let me do zero stars I would. First off we were a team of 6 from out of town who found this place on yelp. Great reviews so we tried it. We got in around 645 and order 3 appetizers as well as our food. 3 other tables came, ordered, ate, paid and left and we still hadn't gotten our food. We told the waiter separate checks and she made a show of getting our names to do so also saying she could accommodate a vegetarian. One of our group got his full order of a salad and pretzels and cheese a full 45 minutes later while the rest of us still waited. We had to remind the lady of our two other appetizers. At about an hour of waiting I went to another host and mentioned it was a ridiculously long wait for food with others having eaten and gone which he apologized for and said he'd check on it. Finally two other orders came out one for our vegetarian and it had a meatball. Still the rest of the food trickled one by one mine being last. Meatballs and pasta. MY FOOD WAS COLD! At this point I was not hungry anymore as we had waited an hour and 15 minutes for cold food I refused to eat it. When time to pay that's when the owner came by and could not figure out the separate checks then to find out that gratuity was included...I could not stand for that and said as much. It was not told to us prior and they DID NOT DESERVE A SINGLE CENT! When I said so to the owner she had the audacity to give me attitude with *you know what I'm aware you guys were a larger group and we were busy* WE WERE THE ONLY ONES THERE WHEN WE GOT THERE, the place filled up fast afterwards. I was pissed! She then had the nerve to cut me off and say she'd get back to me. I turn to my friend to discuss how dissatisfied I was and the owner rudely cut me off to jump in my conversation. I flat out called her rude and she continued with her crappy attitude blaming our race group from last year of expecting things right away and impeccable service. Wanting warm food in a timely manner is apparently asking too much. I got up to speak to another employee only to have the owner follow me and get in my face saying she could fire customers and she was firing me. To get out of her restaurant or she'd call the cops. SHE GOT IN MY FACE, I had to tell her to back up and not touch me. Jane/Ana/whatever the heck her name is I sincerely hope you see this because you are a horribly rude person who clearly does not know what customer service is.
What a wonderful atmosphere. The drinks are great and the food tastes like the chef picks the most quality ingredients. Every dish I've had here has been fantastic. It is always better to make reservations here since life after COVID hours may vary.
It's really a nice place, just prejudice against a group of people who bring a LOT of money to this town!
Exceptional selection of bourbon and short ribs cooked to perfection! Top notch service. Thank you for all the bourbon suggestions.
This situation has given me the chance to relay my parents' thoughts on their beloved restaurant: Jane Barleycorn’s Market and Bar, located at 130 South Fourth Street in Danville, Kentucky. They have been wisely adhering to takeout-only service, and they thoroughly enjoyed their meal and dessert before my mother drafted the review below, which I share with her permission: "Our takeout meal from Barleycorn’s was genuinely gourmet and delicious. Neil had a delightfully spiced Bahn Mi Sandwich made with citrus pulled pork, homemade pickles, chili mayo, and ginger slaw. I enjoyed a rainbow trout served with lettuce, tomato, and lemon-caper mayo. The baguettes were perfectly crispy on the outside and delightfully soft on the inside. For dessert, we chose a lava cake with blood orange sauce, a warm, smooth, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate experience. Mary Robin always goes the extra mile to accommodate our special requests, and we cannot praise her establishment enough."
