Can't comment on the rooms, wasn't aware they had any. Food is consistently good. I'm not a big lover of carveries, but this is the exception. Rooms: It's not a hotel! Service: 4 Location: 4 View all feedback.
What Luke B doesn't like about The Defford Arms:
Very cramped space, staff too busy to care to care and full of attitude. Only one staff member stood out as polite. Not disability friendly. Food pretty average. Only one entrance in use as other exits blocked by tables which is surely a fire hazard. Service: 2 Location: 4 View all feedback.
Not sure why this place has so many good reviews!! We weren’t too impressed with the place! Went as part of a group of 15 for a family meal to celebrate my sister in-laws wedding. Carvery was tasty but the actual experience was chaotic and it cramped inside. Chairs have had their day, one of our party found a broken one with wobbly legs. Other chairs were stained and ripped. Decor and furniture need updating! When we arrived there were still people on our table- they obviously just turn around customers as quickly as possible! The table was so cramped- we were constantly pulling ourselves in to let others past which spoilt the enjoyment of a nice relaxing meal. There was barely any room for our pushchair, luckily we managed to cram it in behind the table. We were rushed off the table too. The food was good but that was it we won’t be going back!

Went for a carvery was busy but still fabulous friendly staff lovely food
We turned up mid lunch service with 2 hungry children and a dog. The car park was packed yet we still decided to give it a go and try our luck. When I walked in it was packed and I spoke to an incredibly polite young lady at the door who stopped what she was doing to greet me and happily said we could have a table in the garden which was perfect for us with the dog. Came in to get some drinks and order our food and again despite them all being busy and rushed off their feet the service was friendly and polite. The lady serving us advised about the wait of about half an hour food, so I paid and took our seats in the garden. I was slightly worried about the 30 minute wait as I had two hungry children yet after only about 15/20 mins we were told we could get our food. Well what can I say about the food..I would have waited an hour for it. A beautiful piece of beef, more vegetables than you could ask for and gravy. This was just what was needed after a morning of walking in the Gloucestershire countryside. Great service and great food and a very reasonable price as well. Can’t wait to go back.
