We visited as a family of four for afternoon tea. This was served in a restaurant which was so far and on such a complicated route from the hotel reception that we were accompanied there by a member of staff. On a Saturday afternoon we were one of only three tables occupied in the large restaurant which, although pleasant, lacked atmosphere. My mother saw this restaurant on a list of best afternoon teas in Edinburgh so we booked a table. Wish we hadn’t. The sandwiches had clearly been in a fridge and were very cold, and the fillings tasted unseasoned. The bread was spongy and bland.
