Ordered dinner, a chicken parma. Some of the family had arrived earlier and ordered the meal. One dinner was a chicken parma. Had a taste, and quickly changed my mind. The tomato paste/sauce was unusually spicy, not just for me but for others as well. The fries (not chips) are served in wire baskets which do not stay hot, ask for the fries to be put on the plate. The coleslaw was very hard to chew and with little fla... View all feedback.

Southern Fried Chicken Burger was just yummmmmmm - very delish Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable Bistro was semi busy on a quiet weekday but I wasn't left hanging Clean & tidy with lovely ambience Will be back to sample other dishes
We have dined there prior to a gig/show many times. Usually the food and service is good and the prices are reasonable. Last night the Parmas were tasteless as were the fries. They have also removed garlic bread from the menu. . We ordered 6 apple crumble pies for dessert. After waiting nearly an hour, and after further follow up with the staff, the very small desserts finally arrived. Three of them were missing the top being the pastry lid, leaving just a small bowl of apple with a small scoop of ice cream for $10! (The dessert price has increased from $5.50 to $10 over the last year). I queried with the staff member why three of the desserts were incomplete. He replied 'oh, the kitchen ran out of pastry' and just walked away..We then had to take the 3 incomplete desserts through the crowd back to the kitchen to express our disappointment. We were promptly given a refund but no apology. Bring back the old menu and realistic dessert prices!
We have been going to the Caulfield RSL frequently for the last two years and we have seen 3 changes in the Catering Staff. We used to eat at the RSL most Thursdays. On New Years Eve we booked to see the band and decided to have dinner there with friends. I ordered the Thai beef salad plus one of the desserts. It took an hour for my meal to come. When it came I could only see the salad and no beef. The beef was not sliced it was one piece of 90% fat and gristle. My group looked at the beef and we all felt sick. I took it to the Kitchen Manager and said have a look at this. She through the fat and gristle into the bin and said I will have a talk to the Kitchen Staff. She never came back to me. I then discussed the incident with the Manager of the RSL and still nothing was done. Hungry as I could not eat the beef in the Beef salad, my dessert was not coming and they were closing up the kitchen. I went to the kitchen and asked for my dessert. One of the chefs said I will bring it out to you in two minutes. I thought it was strange as he did not know my table number. 10 minutes later no dessert and the kitchen now had nearly completely closed up. I went to the kitchen and knocked as they had closed the shutter and yelled out for service as they did not respond for 5 minutes. They eventually gave me my dessert and the lady next to the kitchen another customer said to her friend there is your dessert. Obviously they had not served her either. Our friends and my husband and I will not be returning for any meals until new caterers take over. I emailed about the incident Caulfield RSL. Narelle who responded explained that is how their steak comes and did not address the fact the kitchen had no intention of serving my dessert unless chased. We also attended another gig at the venue in November when we came for dinner. We were told there was a function upstairs and they would not be taking meal orders until 8.00 pm. We waited until 8.00 pm to order and when returning to the bar to order we were told they were not taking any meal orders. The band started at 8.45 pm and this made it very late to grab a meal from another venue.
We arranged an early Christmas lunch for 60 people. Very very impressed. They provided Christmas decorations and atmosphere, and music. Fabulous 3 course meal and the staff were so obliging and helpful. There is a lift and upstairs bar and amenities. Light and bright, round tables, and so close to the Elsternwick station. Thanks to all involved. Won't hesitate to have our next function here also.
