We drove by this cafe several times before stopping. But when we finally stopped, what greeted us was excellent home cooking. Tried breakfast — loved the gravy. Tried lunch — good hamburgers. Yesterday I tried the bacon and cheese quiche which was yummy. They have a fun selection of ice cream and other sweets for kids. And it is fun to sit at the counter. If you like to get out of the franchise rat race and appreciate a place that is small and homey, South Evergreen Cafe is it.
Normally when you drive by a cafe attached to a gas station, you may question the food quality a bit. With South Evergreen Cafe, I ended up going two days in a row (first after road biking up Deer Creek Canyon, the second after motorcycling up Turkey Creek Canyon – with the specific intention of going back to SEC). The new owners are fantastically nice and the freshly baked cinnamon rolls and lemon cake were mouth wateringly delicious. I am doing my best to tell everyone I know about it so that it is successful long into the future.
Love this diner. It has all the basics a good diner should have plus a lot more. The new owners have made some nice changes, and going there has become a pleasant habbit for me. Sam and Ron are great to talk to (when they have time and not too busy with other customers). I have had most items on the menu, even the hot dog. Havn’t been dissappointed yet.
This cafe on the side of highway 73 has been around for quite some time but most recently it has been gaining popularity and customers such as myself. The cafe has been bought by new owners (I believe Ron and Sam) and they have completely excelled in bringing good, fast food. Do not get tied up in the name cafe, this place is a cafe plus everything (think diner). From their unbelievable breakfast menu that is served all day to the lunch options from amazing salads, FRESH AMAZING burgers (swear the best burger around here – try bbq bacon or bleu), endless wraps, daily baked hoagie rolls, BLAT (blt avocado) and my personal favorites of phily cheese steaks and steak sandwich with au jus. Since there isnt much along 73, this place is perfect for passing thru or locals looking for the right food. Apparently they are opening up a hard ice cream section in addition to soft serve. Definitely a place to try for all passing along 73!
Even more kudos. The new curry is delicious. It is our go to place when my husband with Alz is distressed and has been up all night and I get too...
