What Ally T likes about Akari Japanese Restaurant:
Delicious Japanese for what it is worth. I won't say this is the best Japanese but the restaurant serves honest Jap cuisine. Simple, quick, affordable and worth going back. The chef is quite stingy with the sashimi. When you order sashimi, it is fresh but each slice is about 0.5cm thick which is very ungenerous and non-standard per slice thickness. I will usually go for the soba and other dishes such as okonomiyaki,... View all feedback.

read moreAkari on Brunswick St offers an authentic Japanese dining experience at an affordable price. The restaurant may not be famous for its Asian cuisine, but the food is fresh and delicious. The portion sizes are generous, with favorites like soba, okonomiyaki, tofu, nabe, gyoza, and mussels hotpot. The ambience is elegant, and the presentation of the food is beautiful. Specials like soft shell crab and gyoza were highlights for many diners. With a range of dishes to share, including prawn dumplings, eel sushi, and beef teriyaki, Akari is a top restaurant with lovely service. Additionally, the option to enjoy an Izakaya experience upstairs at the Uptown Jazz Club makes for a perfect evening of music and food. Highly recommended for those looking for a taste of Japan in Melbourne.
